Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When your ball hits the 1-3 pins for right handers, or the 1-2 pins for left handers on the first ball, what should this be called?

Answer: Pocket

When the ball hits the 1-3 pins for right handers, and the 1-2 pins for left handers it is called the pocket. When your ball goes on the opposite side of these pins this is when it is called a brooklyn.
2. Which ball hooks more?

Answer: Dull urethane

A dull urethane will break more than a dull plastic because of its cover stock and its core. A polished urethane or plastic will go longer down the alley because it does not break as much.
3. What is a perfect game?

Answer: 300

A perfect game is 12 strikes in a row. This comes to a total of 300. A 290 is when you spare in the first frame and strike the rest of the way out. You cannot score the other two in one game of bowling.
4. What is the mark called when you throw two balls to knock down all ten pins?

Answer: Spare

A spare is the fundamental of the game. A split is where you leave two or more pins on your first ball, and they are separated by some distance.
5. What is the score when you spare in the first frame and then roll 11 strikes in a row?

Answer: 290

A 290 is when you get any kind of spare in the first frame and follow it up with 11 strikes in a row. The highest game you can shoot is a 300. So you would be unable to shoot a 301 in a game. A 279 and a 286 is still a good game, but that means had a 9-pin count instead of a strike on one or more balls.
6. A bowler could shoot a 290 with a open frame #1 to #10.

Answer: False

A bowler would be unable to shot a 290 with a open frame. The actual highest game you could get is 279.
7. Where would you buy a bowling ball to fit your hand properly?

Answer: Pro Shop

A pro shop will fit your hand the best, althought K-mart does still sell them. A pro shop will also determine what kind of bowling ball you will need. It will also determine the pitch of your thumb. A K-mart bowling ball will not do this.
8. If you leave two pins on your first ball apart, and one of them is not the head pin, what is this called?

Answer: Split

A split is actually where the ball will hit the pins at a certain angle, and leave 2 or more pins away from each other and not leave the head pin. The most common splits known to people is the 3-10, 7-10, or 4-6-7-10.
9. A bowler can have a scratch series of 901 in three games.

Answer: False

This is incorrect cause if you strike all the way in three games you will have 36 strikes. If you throw 36 strikes your score will only be a 900.
10. When an alley is oily, which ball will hook more?

Answer: Reactive

A reactive ball will hook more cause of its powerful core and cover stock. The next in line of these balls would be a reactive resin which normally does not have a strong core and a weak cover stock, but does normally break more than the urethane ball. The plastic ball is what many people use to shoot for spares or if they are a straight bowler.
