Florida defeated the Tide 10-6 in 1963. Southern Miss won 38-29 in 1982.

On February 8, 1936, the first pro football draft took place at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Philadelphia. The first player chosen was Heisman Trophy winner Jay Berwanger from the University of Chicago. However, Berwanger never signed a contract with either the Eagles who selected him, or with the Bears, after they traded for his rights.

Instead the first player drafted to actually play, was the number two pick - Alabama halfback Riley Smith.

Harry Gilmer gained All-Amerian honors in 1945, and finished fifth in the Heisman voting in both 1945 and 1947. He was elected into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1973.
