Alessandro Ballan did beat Leif Hoste who ended 2nd for the 3rd time. He previously lost to Tom Boonen (2006) and Steffen Wesemann (2004).

The Luxemburger Andy Schleck was best debutant and ended 2nd after winner Danilo Di Luca. It was his first grand tour ever. Riccardo Ricco did do well also, but ended 6th. Jose Rujano did not participate in the Giro 2007 (but was best debutant in 2005). Leonardo Piepoli was already 36 years old in 2007.
