David William Hookes was born on 3rd May 1955 in Adelaide, South Australia. He represented South Australia for sixteen years.
2. Hookes made his test debut in the Centenary Test in Melbourne in 1977, where he is remembered for which of the following?

Answer: Hitting five fours in one over off England Captain Tony Greig

At the time he was only 21 years old and had reached the Test team on account of his four successive centuries for South Australia. In the first innings he scored 17 before being caught by Greig off the bowling of Chris Old. In the second innings he scored 56, reaching his half century during the over bowled by Tony Greig.

He was out shortly afterwards, caught by Fletcher off the bowling of Underwood.
3. Hookes made just one test century.

He scored his only test century against Sri Lanka in 1983. He scored 143* in Australia's first innings total of 514-4 declared. He scored more than one hundred runs during the session between lunch and tea on the second day of the test.

Kerry Packer tempted a lot of test cricketers to join his world series in the late 1970's. Hookes had his jaw broken early in the life of WSC by Andy Roberts.

On this tour Hookes played in all five tests, scoring 248 runs at an average of 24.80. His top score was 51, his only score above 50. The West Indies won the series 3-0.
