Answer: Reggie Jackson

Reggie retired in 1987 with 563 big ones after 21 seasons. He never hit 50 in a season and had a career high of 47 in 1969. Foxx hit 58 for the A's in 1932. McGwire hit 52 for the franchise in 1996. Griffey Jr hit 630 career home runs with the Reds and Mariners, hit 56 home runs in a season twice, but never played for the Athletics.

Answer: Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox made only one appearance in the decade, losing to the Reds in 1975.
The Dodgers lost all three of their World Series in the decade. They lost to the Athletics once and the Yankees twice. The Orioles won the 1970 series against the Reds, then lost to the Pirates in 1971 and 1979. The Yankees went to three consecutive World Series. They lost to the Reds in 1976, then won two over the Dodgers. The Cincinnati Reds led all teams by appearing in four World Series in the 1970s, winning two and losing two.

The Manager of the Year Award began in 1983. Although Stengel was a great manager with the Yankees, taking them to 10 World Series, he also managed the dismal Mets. Casey died in 1975. Rodgers won his award by leading the 1987 Montreal Expos to a third place finish in the NL East. Torborg received his award for taking the White Sox to a second place finish in the AL West in 1990. Zimmer won it by taking his 1989 Cubs to a NL East pennant.

Answer: Nolan Ryan

Ryan pitched for 27 seasons, and never hit more than 15 in a season. He only reached double-figures three times in that department. Drysdale hit 20 with the Dodgers in 1961. Plank plunked 20+ twice in his career with the Athletics in 1903 and 1905. Johnson hit 20 opposing batters in 1923 with the Senators.

Answer: Andre Dawson

Dawson played for 11 seasons with the Expos before becoming a Cub from 1987-1992. Andre never made it past two NLCSs, losing with the Expos in 1981 to the Dodgers, then with the Cubs in 1989 to the Giants. Hartnett was a Cubs catcher and went to four World Series with the Cubs team between 1929-1938. Wilson, in addition to hitting 56 home runs and setting a Major League record by having 191 RBIs in 1930, went to the promised land in 1924 with the Giants and 1929 with the Cubs. Hornsby was on the 1929 Cubs team that took him to a World Series loss to the Philadelphia Athletics.

Answer: Oakland Athletics

The Athletics began as the Philadelphia Athletics in 1901. They had Connie Mack at the helm until 1950. In 1955, the franchise moved and became the Kansas City Athletics until 1967, then became the Oakland Athletics in 1968. The Braves franchise had an identify crisis and entered the century as the Boston Beaneaters, then changed to the Boston Doves in 1907.

They became the Rustlers in 1911, then the Braves in 1912. In 1936, after the retirement of Babe Ruth, they changed it again to the Boston Bees before going back to the Braves name in 1941.

The franchise then moved to Milwaukee in 1953, then Atlanta in 1966. The Indians began in the American League as the Blues, then the Bronchos, Naps, and took on the Indian name in 1915. In the century, the Dodger franchise was the Brooklyn Superbas, Brooklyn Robins, Brooklyn Dodgers, before becoming the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1958.

Barnes won his three via two in the National Association in 1872 and 1873, then with the Chicago White Stockings of the National League in 1876. His came in 1882 with the Louisville Eclipse and 1889 with the Boston Reds of the American Association, then his third with the Cleveland Infants in the Players League in 1890. Burkett won two with the Cleveland Spiders in the 1890s, then his third with the Cardinals in 1901.

Jim Fogarty topped the 100-mark in 1887 with the Phillies. Comiskey stole 117 with the St. Louis Browns in 1887. From 1889-1891, Hamilton stole 111, 102, and 111 bases. In two of those seasons, Billy was a Philadelphia Phillie. Raines' career high was 90 bases in 1983 with the Expos. He would never reach even the 80 stolen base mark again.

Teams that made only one World Series appearance in the 1990s were the Athletics, Marlins, Mets, Padres, Phillies, Reds, and Twins.
