Answer: Jean-Pierre Jabouille

Appropriately enough the first man to race a Formula 1 turbo car was the first to win in one. Only two years after the team's debut Jabouille won the 1979 French Grand Prix - a race that is probably better remembered for the last lap battle between Villeneuve and Arnoux for second place.
3. The second team to run a turbocharged Formula 1 car did so for the first time at the 1980 Italian Grand Prix. Who drove the car which only ran during practice?

Answer: Gilles Villeneuve

The only time the Italian GP was held at Imola. Villeneuve drove the very primitive chassis, 126C, and it was actually quicker than the Ferrari 312T5 he raced.

Answer: Nelson Piquet

Piquet raced a BMW powered Brabham to win the 1983 World Championship.
5. McLaren drivers won three World Championships in the mid-1980s with cars powered by TAG engines. Which manufacturer designed and built the TAG engines?

Answer: Porsche

The TAG engine was perhaps the first engine designed and built for a specific car with the McLaren design team insisting on various criteria being fulfilled.
6. Only one of these teams did NOT win at least one Grand Prix with a turbocharged Honda engine - which one?

Answer: Benetton

Benetton did however win the 1986 Mexican Grand Prix with Gerhard Berger driving a BMW Turbo powered machine. Williams-Hondas won a total of 23 Grands Prix with Rosberg, Mansell and Piquet driving. Lotus-Hondas won two races in 1987 with Senna at the wheel. Senna and Prost famously won all but the Italian Grand Prix 1n 1988 with their McLaren-Hondas.

Answer: 1500cc

The smallest engines in F1 were the most powerful!
8. Who was the last driver to win a World Championship during the turbo era in a non-turbo car?

Answer: Keke Rosberg

During a year of great unreliability among the turbos and accidents to Pironi and Villeneuve, Rosberg was able to become World Champion after winning only one Grand Prix in his Williams FW08 in 1982.
9. And, also during the turbo era, what was the last non-turbo car to win a Grand Prix?

Answer: Tyrrell 011-Cosworth

Although all of these cars did win races Michele Alboreto's Tyrrell was the last - crossing the line first at the Detroit Grand Prix of 1983.
10. Turbocharged cars were eventually banned from Formula 1. In which year did they compete for the last time?

Answer: 1988

From 1989 the normally aspirated cars had a maximum capacity of 3500cc (later reduced to 3000cc).
