Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who won the 2004 Formula 1 World Championship?

Answer: Michael Schumacher

Michal Schumacher dominated the season, winning 13 out of the 18 races for 148 pts. This was his seventh championship. Rubens Barrichello, his Ferrari teammate, was a distant runner-up with 114 pts. Jenson Button was a distant third with 85 pts.
2. What was David Coulthard's best finish and where did he achieve it?

Answer: 4th, Germany

David didn't have a good final year with McLaren, struggling with the one lap qualifying. He failed to score a single podium, and even his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen, took just one victory (Belgium) showing how bad the MP4 19 was.
3. How many DNFs did Ferrari have over the course of the year?

Answer: 2

Schumacher retired at Monaco in a bizzare incedent where Montoya punted him into the tunnel under safety car conditions. Barrichello was eliminated from the Japanese Grand Prix after a tangle with David Coulthard.
4. Who qualified 6th for his home grand prix, but retired from the race?

Answer: Mark Webber

Mark qualified his Jaguar 6th for Australia, but was forced out with transmission problems on lap 28 of 58.
5. How many podiums did BAR-Honda achieve over the year?

Answer: 11

Jenson Button took 2nds in San Marino, Monaco, Germany and China; with 3rds in Malaysia, Bahrain, Europe, Canada, Italy and Japan. Takuma Sato took 3rd in the USA.
6. At the end of the year, Jaguar Racing sold out to Red bull for the sum of one dollar.

Answer: True

The symbolic sum of $1.00 was paid by Red Bull when they acquired Jaguar Racing (which lasted for five season from 2000 to 2004). They then invested hundreds of millions of pounds to make them multiple championship winners, as well as to hire Adrian Newey.

In fact, one of the sale conditions stipulated by Ford was that Red Bull invest at least $400 million in the team over the next three seasons.
7. Schumacher clinched the title by finishing 3rd in Belgium.

Answer: False

He finished 2nd, just behind Kimi Raikkonen. Although he was happy to have won the title, he was a little disappointed to have missed out on what would have been his 13th victory of the year! His thirteenth and final victory came in Japan (the second last race of the year).
8. Rubens Barrichello muscled his way past Jarno Trulli to take 3rd at the French Grand Prix. But why was the loss of position so embarrassing for Jarno?

Answer: It was at the last corner

Rubens dived up the inside of the final turn, forcing Trulli to give way. As he was a Renault driver at Renault's home grand prix, Flavio Briatorie (Renault team principal) was furious and the mistake was one of the factors leading to Trulli being sacked later in the year.
9. Which teams used Cosworth or Ford engines for the 2004 season?

Answer: Jaguar, Jordan and Minardi

Williams used BMW engines in their penultimate season with the company. In 2006, BMW set up their own team and Williams then used Cosworth engines.
10. Rubens Barrichello started on pole for his home race in Brazil and finished third. But before this race, what had been his best result there and in what year did he do it?

Answer: 4th, 1994

He finished 4th for Jordan in 1994. Every other Brazilian Grand Prix he had raced up to 2004 had ended in retirement. 2003 was the most cruel as he again started from pole only to run out of fuel when leading!
