Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who out-braked himself at the season opener in Bahrain, almost taking out Fernando Alonso?

Answer: Felipe Massa

In his first race for Ferrari, Felipe was comfortably running in third place before over doing it into the first corner. Although he recovered, it was to only finish in ninth place with Fernando Alonso going on to win.
2. Alonso came through to finish second after a tough qualifying in Malaysia. Which positiion did he qualify?

Answer: 8th

Fernando Alonso came through the field brilliantly and passed Jenson Button to finish second behind Renault teammate Giancarlo Fisichella, who won.
3. In Imola, the field was quite close on lap times. How many cars finished on the lead lap?

Answer: 12

It was close all weekend, and in qualifying, pole man Michael Schumacher was only 0.977 seconds faster than sixth place Ralf Schumacher. Michael subsequently went on to win.
4. Spain, Monaco, Britain, and Canada were sensational for Fernando Alonso. What was his points lead over Michael Schumacher after Canada?

Answer: 25 points

It was the highest it would be all year, as Ferrari soon launched a remarkable comeback. Despite a run of four wins, Alonso was helpless to retaliate and could only watch as Ferrari and Schumacher ate in to his championship lead, point by point.
5. At the United States Grand Prix, Juan Pablo Montoya, in what would be his final Grand Prix for McLaren, did what to make his last race memorable?

Answer: Wiped out his team mate and Jenson Button, flipped Nick Heidfeld

Going in to turn 1, Montoya forced his teammate Kimi Raikkonen, Honda driver Jenson Button, and Nick Heidfeld to retire after just one corner!
6. In Magny-Cours, what did Honda do to make the headlines?

Answer: Failed to get both cars to the flag and couldn't get Jenson Button

Another shocking performance by Honda, whose only car to finish was the Super Aguri of Franck Montagny! This after the British Grand Prix where they failed to get Jenson Button through qualifying session 1 at his home race.
7. At Hungary, what driver proved his critics wrong by winning the race?

Answer: Jenson Button

After 113 GPs, Jenson finally got that long awaited maiden victory after a masterful drive in both wet and dry conditions.
8. Schumacher's title challenge faltered in Turkey after what happened?

Answer: Felipe Massa won and Alonso beat Schumi

Another race where the faster driver didn't win. Massa drove beautifully and Alonso used all his skills to keep the master at bay behind him.
9. In the Chinese Grand Prix, after Alonso dominated qualifying, what went wrong in the race?

Answer: Botched pit stops and a dodgy tyre choice

One race after announcing his retirement, Schumacher produced another recovery drive to win. After Alonso did not finish in Italy, Schumacher and Alonso were now level on points. Schumacher headed the standings, though, by virtue of more wins.
10. At Michael Schumacher's final race in Brazil, what happened that caused his final race to be so memorable?

Answer: Fuel pressure problem in qualifying and a puncture in the race

The great man finally retired after a career of controversy and success. Alonso became a double world champion. Also, he became the youngest ever double world champion and Button, Massa, and Raikkonen showed just what they could do. What an end to the season!
