1. 1950: Which car did 1950 World Champion Giuseppe Farina drive in his championship winning year?

Answer: Alfa

The top three drivers that year all drove Alfas: Farina, Fangio and Fagioli.
2. 1952: What car did Mike Hawthorn drive in the 1952 world championship, in which he finished joint 4th with Rudi Fischer?

Answer: Cooper

Having impressed everyone in the underpowered Cooper that year, Hawthorn was offered a seat in the 1953 Ferrari. Fischer drove for Ferrari in the '52 season.
3. 1954: Which of the following drivers never raced in the all dominating Mercedes W196?

Answer: Maurice Trintignant

Mercedes dominated 1954, with Fangio winning the championship easily. However Karl Kling and Hans Hermann did not impress, finishing 5th and 6th respectively in the championship. Trintignant finished in fourth place, driving a Ferrari.

Lauda looked set to be world champion again that year, but a horrific accident at the Nurburgring forced him to retire from that race. Incredibly he was back only weeks later to finish fourth at Monza. In the final race of the season, in Japan, Lauda pulled out because he believed the conditions were unsafe. Hunt finished third in that race and secured the championship.

Ronnie Peterson was battling with Mario Andretti for the title, but his death meant Andretti was a clear leader of the championship.
