Answer: Jim Thorpe

It seems like there wasn't anything Jim Thorpe couldn't do. Roger Bannister is famous for being the first person to break the 4-minute mile barrier (in May 1954), but he didn't run events that were longer than a mile. Answer: Al Oerter

From 1956 to 1968, American Al Oerter won four consecutive gold medals for the discus throw. Despite being plagued by injuries before the 1964 games, he still won the gold and had a personal best throw. Not only did he become the first person to break 200 feet in the discus throw, but he broke the Olympic record in three of his four medal appearances. His longest throw came in 1968, when he reached 212.5 feet.
