During the 1950s the Georgia Bulldawgs, coached by Wally Butt, only had a wining percentage of 48%. During the '60s, Coach Butts, Coach Johnny Griffith and Coach Vince Dooley combined for a total winning percentage of 56%. In the '90s, Coach Ray Goff and Coach Jim Donnan combined for a total winning percentage of 59%. And, during the '20s, Coach H.J. Stegeman, Coach George Woodruff, and Coach Harry Mehre combined for an overall winning percentage of 63%.
2. When Georgia's Richard Vonalbade Gammon died in 1897 while playing football for the University of Georgia, who was credited with saving football at both Georgia and in the entire South?

Answer: Gammon's mother

As a result of Gammon's death, Georgia's legislature and State Senate passed a measure prohibiting football at all universities in the state; however, Richard Vonalbade Gammon's mother wrote a letter to Governor W.Y. Atkinson requesting, "grant me the right to request that his death should not be used to defeat the most cherished object of his life." A Bronze plaque was given to the University of Georgia by the University of Virginia commemorating Richard Vonalbade Gammon's death.

He had been fatally injured during the Georgia-Virginia game in 1897 at Atlanta's Brisbine Park.

After the 1975 Junkyard Dawgs, the most famous nickname of any Georgia football team was the 1978 team, known as the Wonder Dawgs. They posted a 9-2-1 record and had several come from behind victories, including LSU, Kentucky and Georgia Tech.
