Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Kobe was drafted right out of high school in 1996 by what NBA team?

Answer: Charlotte Hornets

Kobe was in round 1 of the draft and the 13th overall pick. At the age of 18 years and 72 days he became the youngest player to have ever played in NBA history (for the LA Lakers, after he was traded by the Hornets). This record was broken by Jermaine O'Neal (1996 for the Portland Trailblazers, at the age of 18 years and 53 days) and then Andrew Bynum (2005 with the LA Lakers, at the age of 18 years and 6 days).
2. Shortly after the 1996 draft Kobe was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for what player?

Answer: Vlade Divac

Just 15 days after the draft Kobe stated that he didn't want to play for the Hornets but wanted to play for the LA Lakers instead. The Lakers manager, Jerry West, was already extremely fond of Kobe after watching him play in high school and private scrimmages with other Lakers, and decided to trade Vlade Divac, their starting center, to get the future NBA star. Since Kobe was underage at the time, his parents had to co-sign his contract with the Lakers.
