The Redskins buried the hated Cowboys 26-3, thus denying them a 3rd straight trip to the Super Bowl.

2. Which was the only team to have a better win/loss record than the Redskins during the 1980s?

Answer: San Francisco 49ers

3. When Joe Gibbs took over as the Redskins new head coach in 1981, the team lost their first five games, before suddenly exploding and winning eight of the last 11 games to finish 8-8.

Amazingly, the Redskins were leading the league in total offense while they were 0-5. Just as amazing is the fact that after that terrible start, the team won 36 of its next 42 games (including post-season).

The Skins did it to the Cowboys again! This time the final score was 31-17. This was Dallas' 3rd straight loss in the NFC Championship game, and was the last time they'd get that far until 10 years later under Jimmy Johnson.

I probably would've cried too after that hit. Who knows, maybe he was crying because he knew his team was, yet again, not going to the Super Bowl.

With John Riggins leading the way, the Skins shattered several offensive records. The Minnesota Vikings broke this record, scoring 556 points in 1998. They had a(+43) turnover ratio, meaning they took the ball away on interceptions or fumbles 43 times more than their opponents did.

Answer: Ricky Sanders

Sanders was actually filling in for the injured Art Monk. The Redskins were also missing starting running back, George Rogers. Rookie Timmy Smith filled in for Rogers and rushed for 204 yards and two touchdowns. I find it amazing that without two of their most important players, the team still managed to destroy the Broncos, 42-10.

8. How many touchdowns did the Redskins score in the second quarter of Super Bowl XXII against the Broncos?

Answer: 5

5 touchdowns, 35 points. The whole world was stunned as the Skins scored TD's on five straight offensive possessions.

9. What team did the Redskins defeat in Super Bowl XXVI?

Answer: Buffalo Bills

This was after the 1991 season, another fantastic season for the Redskins. A season in which they anihilated almost every team they faced. It was the second of four straight Super Bowl losses for the Bills.

10. What Redskin was MVP of Super Bowl XXVI?

Answer: Mark Rypien

Rypien's performance in that game, and indeed, the whole season, was a testament to the genius of head coach Joe Gibbs. I personally don't believe any other head coach could have drawn that kind of performance out of a quarterback like Rypien.
