Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When did Nebraska first play a nationally televised game?

Answer: 1953

The game was played on September 19th vs. Oregon on NBC. Home games were broadcast on the local WOW-TV network in 1949 and 1950.

There was also a game telecast 14 years earlier, in 1939 vs. Kansas Sate on October 28th, during TV's so-called experimental era. In all likelihood it was viewed on just one tv set in the press box. The game was played in Manhattan.
2. In 1991 a musical clip was played on TV before the Washington game that accompanied some accomplishments of Derek Brown and Calvin Jones, among other Huskers. What was the song?

Answer: Real, Real, Real

They are all Jesus Jones songs. It was a well-produced (and very entertaining) clip.
3. Irving Fryar played for all of these teams except for the ________ ?

Answer: Buffalo Bills

Fryar caught 11 touchdowns in his Huskers career.
4. The last time that Nebraska passed for over 300 yards was with Vince Ferragamo?

Answer: False

Nebraska had never passed for over 300 yards with any Quarterback. Eric Crouch had the most with 204 yards vs. Texas in 1999.
5. Which of these players broke the then record for the longest punt return in Nebraska history when, in September 2000, he ran for a 94 yard TD?

Answer: Bobby Newcombe

Newcombe ran for a 94-yard touchdown vs. Missouri September 30th, 2000. Rodgers held the previous record with a 92-yarder vs. Oklahoma State in 1971.
6. All of these nicknames have been associated with Nebraska football at one time or another, before they became the Cornhuskers, EXCEPT _______ ?

Answer: Threshers

All were used before 1900, the year Nebraska became the Cornhuskers.
7. Which of these did Nebraska NOT achieve in the 2002 football season?

Answer: Score 50+ points in a single game

Nebraska only scored 48 points vs. Arizona State, the highest of the season; they sold out every home game; they played on the road at Texas A&M and in Shreveport, LA (Independence Bowl); and set an attendence record vs. Texas (78,268 att.).
8. How many field goals did Dale Klein kick vs. Missouri on October 19th, 1985 to set an NCAA record?

Answer: 7

He also kicked a PAT to score 22 points on the day.
9. Nebraska had a game suspended AND postponed in the 2001 season?

Answer: True

The Rice game was postponed to September 20th due to the 9/11 tragedy. The Baylor game in Waco, Texas was suspended over half an hour due to lightning.
10. Nebraska set an NCAA record by scoring 624 points in a season in what year?

Answer: 1983

Another 2 points in that season, and 626 points would have won the National Championship, as Nebraska fell to Miami (FL) 31-30 in the Orange Bowl.
