The three Test series between India and New Zealand was played in March and April 2009, in the backdrop of the T-20 series (won by New Zealand) and the one day series (won by India). The series was won by India 1-0. This was a historic win for India coming after a gap of more than 50 years. Prior to this series, India had always performed poorly in New Zealand and had lost most of the series played.
