The Seahawks' first season in the NFL was 1976 and they finished with a 2-12 record. After finishing 5-9 in 1977, the team won nine of 16 games in 1978, and head coach Jack Patera was named coach of the year in the AFC.

The Seahawks played 1976 in the NFC West Division and the Buccaneers were placed in the AFC West. Both teams played one game against the other 13 members of their conference, and they played each other. In 1977, the Seahawks were relocated to the AFC West and the Buccaneers to the NFC Central. With the total re-alignment of the NFL divisions in 2002, the Seahawks were moved back to the NFC.

Zorn, a left-handed scrambling quarterback, was the original starting QB for the team, and played for them from 1976-1984.

The first postseason game the Seahawks ever played in, was the 1983 AFC Wildcard game against the Broncos. The Seahawks won the game, 31-7.
