1. What was the first domed stadium in Major League Baseball?

Answer: Astrodome

Not only was the Houston Astrodome the first domed stadium in MLB, but it was the first to use artificial turf. Hence the name 'Astroturf'. The original grass field could not withstand the indoor conditions.

Although the SkyDome in Toronto is usually thought of as the first retractable dome in MLB, it was not. In 1988, Montreal's Olympic Stadium became the first retractable domed stadium in the world, when its kevlar roof was lifted into the stadium's tower for a select number of games.

The same thing was done in 1989 and 1990. Due to structural problems and constant rips, following the 1991 season the roof was left closed from then on. It was replaced in 1998 with a fixed roof.
