Answer: Nolan Ryan

Nolan was nicknamed, 'Ryan Express', for his consistent strikeout numbers in his career. He won almost every major award in baseball, except for the Cy Young Award, given to the most outstanding pitcher in a season. He led the league 11 times with strikeouts in his career, and retired with 5714.

He was the first pitcher ever to reach 4,000 career strikeouts, with Steve Carlton being the second.

Answer: Cy Young

The others listed, did pitch in the Major Leagues, but not for another 50 years. Denton True "Cyclone" Young retired from baseball in 1911. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in the Hall's second year of presentations, 1937. In 1956, Major League baseball started giving out an award to the best pitcher in baseball, and named the award after Young.

This was to honor this pitcher who died a year earlier.

Answer: Josh Beckett

The others were all New York Yankee pitchers. Beckett, 23, in his third season of the big leagues, struck out 19 New York Yankees. He was the 1999 first round, second pick, in the amateur draft. The Marlins defeated the Yankees four games to two.

Answer: 1953

Just shy of his 18th birthday, Jay made his first appearance on July 21, 1953. He pitched in three games in the season, and had a record of 1-0. His first win was a shutout. He did not allow any runs in his season debut. He went on to pitch in the big leagues for a total of 11 years, and retired one shy of the 100 win mark.

Answer: Ty Cobb

Ty Cobb won the Most Valuable Player Award in 1911, after winning the Triple Crown in 1909. During his Triple Crown season, he led the league in batting average, hits, RBIs, home runs, stolen bases, runs scored, and on-base percentage. Cobb died in 1961, and only nine people attended his funeral. Ty Cobb was not a well liked baseball player, as he was accused of dirty tactics, including 'spiking' other players during his base stealing attempts.
7. With a runner on first and second base, with one out, the batter hits a pop fly above the pitcher. What is the umpire's ruling?

Answer: Infield fly rule

The umpire should have called the batter out. The infield fly rule is called when there is a runner on first and second base, or first, second, and third base, with less than two outs in the inning. This rule was created more than 50 years ago, because infielders would intentionally drop the pop fly, to try and get a double-play.

Answer: U.S. Cellular Field

Four times in Paul's career, he was in the top ten voting for the season MVP Award, and finished second in 1993, behind White Sox player Frank Thomas.
