Answer: Sam "The Bam" Cunningham

Cunningham finished his career with 5,453 yards rushing, all of it for the Patriots. Jim Nance was a very close second with 5,323.
2. Who wore jersey #81 for the Patriots from 1975-1980, and again in 1987-1988?

Answer: Russ Francis

Russ Francis was a hard nosed tight end for the Patriots who caught 207 passes with 28 TDs for the team. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers.

All of these players were first round picks of the Patriots. Wide receiver Irving Fryar, had a fantastic college career at the University of Nebraska, and was drafted first by the Patriots in 1984. Defensive end Kenneth Sims, was the team's first and the first overall pick in 1982. Quarterback Tony Eason, was their first pick in 1983, and Stanley Morgan had already been playing for seven years.

Bob Dee wore #89 and played defensive end for the Patriots in the 1960s, never missing a game (112 played). He scored the first TD in AFL history (preseason) on a fumble recovery. Mike Haynes wore #40 and played at cornerback for the team. He was named to the Pro Bowl after six of his seven seasons, and in 1976, became the first Patriot to return a punt for a TD. Steve Nelson was a teammate of Mike Haynes.

He was an underrated linebacker who played 14 years and averaged more than 10 tackles per game.

Chuck Foreman, known mainly as a Minnesota Viking, rushed for 63 yards for the Patriots in 1980. Nick Buoniconti played for the Boston Patriots from 1962-1968, before moving on to Super Bowl glory with the Miami Dolphins. Nick Lowery began his kicking career with the Patriots in 1977, missing the only field goal he attempted.

He went on to have an excellent career with the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets. Jerome Barkum spent his entire 12 year career as a tight end with the New York Jets.
