Maradona was born in Lanus, a lower income area of Buenos Aires in Argentina. Maradona was once quoted as saying that, "If you come from Lanus you have two choices; sport or crime, and I chose sport".

Answer: Pele

Pele was brought up with football as his father was a decent striker with Brazilian team Bauru. His father's career was cut short however, with a broken leg, after which he never played again.

Wayne Rooney was brought up in the rough and tough area of Croxteth in Liverpool, England. Croxteth was most notorious for the riots that rampaged through the city in the 1980s.

Maradona was sent home in disgrace, from the 1994 World Cup in USA, for taking the banned performance enhancing drug Ephedrine. He was also banned and suspended by his club Napoli in 1991.
