Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 2007, quarterback Brett Favre set a new career passing yard mark when he threw his 61,362nd passing yard. Whose career passing yardage record did Brett break?

Answer: Dan Marino

The others were 30,000 yards short of even Marino. Dan was a career Miami Dolphin from 1983-1999. He set a season passing record in 1984 when he threw for 5084 yards. Marino was a nine-time Pro Bowler, and was not jinxed with his jersey number 13.
2. Which of these Super Bowls was won as time expired on the clock?

Answer: 2002, XXXVI- Patriots/Rams

The other options were not possible as the teams played in the same conference. On February 3, 2002, New England's Adam Vinatieri kicked a 48-yard field as time expired, to defeat the St. Louis Rams 20-17 in the Louisiana Superdome.
3. Who was the first team in NFL history to win at least 15 games in the regular season, then go on to lose the Super Bowl?

Answer: New England Patriots

Not just 15, but the Patriots went a perfect 16-0 in 2007. They went head-to-head against the 10-6 Giants in Super Bowl XLII, and lost 17-14.
4. Head coach Marv Levy took the Buffalo Bills to four Super Bowls and came up empty-handed each time. With what team did Levy begin as a NFL head coach?

Answer: Kansas City Chiefs

Marv had the helm of the Chiefs between 1978-1982. He took the Chiefs to a combined 30-42 record. He came back as head coach of the Bills in 1986. With an amazing record, Levy took the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowls for the 1990-1993 seasons. His record with the Bills was 112-70.
5. Which player was the very first Pro Bowl MVP in 1951?

Answer: Otto Graham

Otto Graham was a Cleveland Brown from 1946-1955. The 1951 Pro Bowl was his second appearance, and he took the very first MVP. He took the Browns to a 11-1 record in the season. Five times in his career, Otto led the league in passing yards. He was a 1965 NFL Hall of Fame inductee.
6. Which NFL team was the first-ever to go undefeated in a season?

Answer: Canton Bulldogs

In 1922, the first season of the NFL, the Bulldogs went 10-0-2 to win the NFL Championship. Seven of Canton's wins were by shutout. The team allowed only 15 points scored against them in the entire season. The Rochester Jeffersons, Evansville Crimson Giants, Columbus Panhandles, and Hammond Pros all went winless in the NFLs first season.
7. From 1946-1949, the Cleveland Browns played in the All-American Football Conference. Before jumping to the NFL, who did they defeat to take the final AAFC crown in 1949?

Answer: San Francisco 49ers

The others listed did not exist in 1949. The Browns finished off the regular season 9-1-2. They defeated the Buffalo Bills in the Division Championship 31-21, then the 49ers in the Conference Championship 21-7. Still under the guidance of head coach Paul Brown, the Browns' first NFL season saw them win the NFL Championship in 1950 over the Rams.
8. Who was the first NFL Commissioner/President to be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame?

Answer: Joe Carr

Carr was NFL President from 1921-1939. He was inducted in 1963. Mara was inducted in 1963 also, but was only founder of the New York Giants, the same for Marshall who was the founder of the Washington Redskins. Hunt was founder of the American Football League, which later merged with the NFL. Hunt was inducted in 1972.
9. In which year did the NFL assign jersey numbers by position?

Answer: 1952

The NFL first documented which position could wear which jersey number in 1952, then did a more comprehensive realignment in 1972. The biggest changes were that quarterbacks were limited to numbers 1-19, and any number beginning with zero was banned. However, both Jim Otto of the Raiders and Ken Burrough of the Oilers were grandfathered in. Burrough was the last player to wear the 00.
10. Who was the first player in NFL history to score 200 touchdowns in their career?

Answer: Jerry Rice

The others fell short of the 100-career mark, mainly because they were all defensive players. Wearing the number 80, Rice played for the 49ers, Raiders, and Seahawks from 1985-2004. The 13-time Pro Bowler scored 208 touchdowns in his career. 197 of those were from the air. Jerry retired in 2004.
