Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who kicked the last goal of the 1970 Grand Final?

Answer: Alex Jesaulenko

Yep, Jezza sealed the game off with his 45 metre snap that bounced through with nobody deep in Collingwood's defence, and the Blues won by 111-101.
2. At which ground did Jeff Fehrig kick his monster torpedo punt goal in 1981?

Answer: Moorabbin Oval

The St Kilda player bombed the ball about 90 metres from behind the centre circle. An earlier report had fired him up to boot the skin off the ball.
3. In which season did Norm Smith coach South Melboune into their first finals series since 1945 (an easy one for you!)?

Answer: 1970

They lost to St Kilda in the Elimination Final, and the Saints lost to Carlton the week later in the Preliminary Final as the Blues bounded into the Grand Final against Collingwood.
4. Who polled three votes ahead of Shane Woewodin in his Brownlow Medal winning match of round 22 in 2000 in the Brownlow Medal count?

Answer: Adam Yze

The 13 Demon was BOG again in that game, one when Melbourne dominated. Round 22 is the last round, and going into it, Woewodin was level with Scott West and needed at least one vote to be the individual winner of the League's most prestigious award for the best and fairset of the season (voted by the umpires, or referees on a 3-2-1 system).
5. Which player hit the post early on in the last quarter of the 1970 Grand Final?

Answer: Ted Hopkins

A goal would have brought Carlton right back in it after their third-quarter turnaround. Lucky for Hopkins, Carlton eventually did get their noses in front and went on to win, with Hopkins kicking 4 goals.
6. Why was Richmond's Tom Heaney suspended for two matches in 1909?

Answer: Flinging

Yep, Flinging. I'm not exactly sure what this means, though!
7. Fremantle's Dale Kickett played for four clubs, with which team did he play 8 games?

Answer: Essendon

Back in 1994 he played with the Bombers and showed lots of promise, but they traded him (along with Todd Ridley) to Fremantle for the Dockers' first draft pick, where they picked up current star Matthew Lloyd.
8. Who played in the first ever recorded night game?

Answer: Collingwood Artillery and East Melboune

At the MCG way back in 1879. The game was a draw at 3 goals apiece (each!).
9. Which team did not have one player front the tribunal in 1999?

Answer: St. Kilda

They really are Saints!
10. Which player of the 1990s played the most games in the 41 gurnsey?

Answer: Matthew Kennedy
