1. Who did Brian Rose succeed as Somerset captain?

Answer: Brian Close

Brian Close followed Brian Langford as captain, then came Brian Rose and a team that kept fans on the edge of their seats as they came so close to winning those elusive trophies in 1978 and then romped to victory in 1979. Vic Marks and Ian Botham were later captains of the team.

Answer: Allan Border

Viv Richards, Martin Crowe, Sunil Gavaskar, Joel Garner, Steve Waugh and Greg Chappell all played for Somerset.
3. Somerset won their first title in 1979, 104 years after the team was formed.

In 1979 they won the Gillette Cup and the John Player League, having lost out on the same titles the previous year. They defeated Northamptonshire in the Gillette Cup final on 8th September and won the John Player Sunday League the next day.

Derek John Somerset Taylor, the Somerset wicket keeper, has a twin brother who played for Nottinghamshire and Hampshire. They were not, however, born in Somerset but in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.

Peter Denning was nicknamed Dasher because of his speed between the wickets. He was the opening partner of Brian Rose, and he scored 11559 runs in first class cricket between 1969-1984.

Richards was chosen in 1977, Botham in 1978, Crowe in 1985 and Roebuck in 1988.
