Answer: Milan

Melbourne hosted the games in 1956, Munich in 1972, and Montreal in 1976. Other 'M' cities to host the games were Mexico City and Moscow. The only Italian city to host the games during the 20th century was Rome, in 1960.
2. Who was the only World Heavyweight Champion boxer to retire undefeated during the 20th century?

Answer: Rocky Marciano

Rocco "Rocky" Marciano was born in Brockton, MA, in 1923. He became world champion in 1952, knocking out Jersey Joe Walcott in the 13th round in Philadelphia. He would go on to make six successful defences of his title, before retiring from the sport in 1956.
3. Which one of these NFL quarterbacks was voted MVP of the Super Bowl on three occasions?

Answer: Joe Montana

Montana was drafted out of Notre Dame by the San Francisco 49ers in 1979. He became the starting QB at Candlestick Park midway through the 1980 season. He led the team to victory in Super Bowls XVI, XIX, XXIII, and XXIV, and was voted MVP of all except XXIII.

He joined the Kansas City Chiefs in 1993, and retired following the 1994 season. In 2000, he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
4. Which Scottish town is known throughout the rugby world as the birthplace of the "sevens" version of the sport?

Answer: Melrose

Rugby Union is traditionally a fifteen-a-side game, but in 1883 the borders town of Melrose was the venue of the first-ever sevens tournament. The Melrose Sevens takes place each April, with 10,000 fans cramming into the club's Greenyards ground to watch the action.
Melrose RFC are no slouches at the "full" version of the sport either, winning their seventh Scottish League title in 2011.
5. Which professional basketball player was nicknamed "The Mailman", because he "always delivered"?

Answer: Karl Malone

Karl Malone played college hoops at Louisiana Tech before being drafted by the Utah Jazz of the NBA in 1985. During a 19-year career, he would win two league MVP awards, make 13 all-star game appearances, and win two Olympic gold medals with Team USA. He played for one season with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2003-04 before retiring from the sport.
6. The Golden Gophers is the nickname of sports teams from which American college?

Answer: Minnesota

The University of Minnesota is based in Minneapolis. Minnesota was nicknamed the Gopher State at one time, thus the moniker. The school's football team were a national powerhouse during the 1930s and 1940s, winning five National Championships, and a sixth was added in 1960. Ice hockey took over as the most successful sport at the school during the latter years of the 20th century and early 21st century, with both men's and women's teams winning national crowns.

Answer: John McEnroe

Born in Weisbaden, Germany, in 1959 (his father was serving with the US Air Force there), McEnroe first came to prominence in 1977, when he reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon as an amateur. After losing an epic Wimbledon final to Bjorn Borg in 1980, he turned the tables on the Swede the following year. Further Wimbledon crowns followed in 1983 (vs Chris Lewis) and 1984 (vs Jimmy Connors). McEnroe also won four US Open titles, but never lifted the Australian or French crowns.

Mantle grew up in Commerce, Oklahoma, and made his Major League debut with the New York Yankees in 1951. He spent his entire career with the Bronx Bombers, appearing in 12 World Series, coming out on the winning side in seven of them. He won three AL MVP awards and was selected to 20 all-star games. He retired after the 1968 season, and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974.

Answer: Colin Montgomerie

Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1963, "Monty" turned professional in 1988, and won his first tour title at the Portuguese Open the following year. He made his Ryder Cup debut in 1991, and never lost a singles match in the competition in eight appearances up until 2006. At Celtic Manor in 2010, he was non-playing captain of Europe's victorious squad.

Answer: Eddy Merckx

Merckx, nicknamed "The Cannibal", was born in Belgium in 1945. He turned professional in 1965 after a highly successful amateur career. He won his first Giro in 1968, and his first Tour the following year. His only Vuelta win came in 1973. He retired early in 1978, and in 2000 was chosen as Belgium's "Sports Figure of the Century".
