1. How many teams particpated in the 1995 season, the first season of the ARL?

Answer: 20

It was expanded to a 20 team competition (the previous season) was run by the NSWRL), with teams from Perth, New Zealand, Townsville and a 2nd Brisbane (from south Queensland) team competing. The North Qld Cowboys and NZ Warriors (then known as Auckland) were the only 1995 expansion clubs which survivwed to particpate in the NRL.
2. What was the name of the Cup that was awarded to the winner of the Grand Final?

Answer: Winfield Cup

The 1995 season was the final year of the "Winfield Cup" due to the government's banning of tobacco products being advertised in sporting competitions. It became the Optus Cup for the 1996-97 seasons, and the Telstra cup from 1999.

Auckland finished 10th with 24 points, Western Reds finished 11th on 22 points, South Queensland finished 16th on 13 points and North Queensland finished last (20th) with only 4 points.
