The Olympique Lyonnais Féminin plays in Lyon, France. The team was formed in 1970 as part of the FC Lyon and in 2004 it became part of Olympique Lyonnais. The team won the Division 1 Championship title 13 years in a row (2007 to 2019), as well as five UEFA Women's Champions League titles in 2011, 2012, 2016, 2017 and 2018. 2. Which national football team (soccer) traditionally plays in a strip that includes a white shirt adorned with three lions?

Answer: England

England's national football team were one of the teams that competed in the first official international football match in 1872, so it could be said that they had first dibs on their choice of team strip - along with the other team, Scotland, of course! England's home kit (which is also worn away from home in various cup competitions) includes the traditional white shirts, while the away kit has usually been red - and was what the team were wearing when they lifted the World Cup in 1966. The three lions in question appear on the team's badge and have featured on their shirts ever since that first match back in the 1870s.

Argentina traditionally wear a white shirt with vertical pale blue stripes, while France and Italy both generally play in blue shirts with white shorts (and, in the case of France, red socks to complete the image of their tricolour flag).

3. White and midnight green are the uniform colors for which NFL team?

Answer: Philadelphia Eagles

Originally, the Eagles' colors were silver, white and a lighter Kelly green. This was changed in 1996 when silver was removed and the Kelly green became the much darker midnight green. The logo for the Philadelphia Eagles are white eagle's wings. These wings used to be silver until the color changed in 1996.

4. Which of the following AFL (Australian Football League) teams come in "silver, teal and black and white"?

Answer: Port Adelaide Power

Port Adelaide Football Club is the oldest professional sporting club in South Australia. The senior team is coloured "silver, teal and black and white" (as named in the club song), while reserve teams are black and white and compete as the "Magpies". Port Adelaide Football Club (otherwise known as "Port Power") took up an AFL licence in 1994 and started playing in the Australian Football League in 1997. The reserve teams compete in the SANFL (South Australian National Football League) and have done since the club was first founded in 1870.

5. The German national men's soccer team traditionally plays in white jerseys with black shorts. Out of its four FIFA World Cup wins (1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014), how many were achieved wearing the white and black kit in the final?

Answer: Three (1954, 1974 and 1990)

Germany played in white jerseys in all of these four World Cup finals, but the 2014 kit did not opt for the traditional black shorts; instead combining a white top featuring more prominent German flag colors with white shorts. The alternate German outfit (away kit) of green jerseys with white shorts has not featured for them in a winning final and neither have any of the rarely seen variants using red and black for the jersey colors.

6. In the Tour de France cycling race, who is awarded the white jersey?

Answer: The best young cyclist

The Tour de France is a yearly cycling competition in twenty-odd stages. The general classification adds up the time spent for each stage, and the leader in the general classification receives a yellow jersey. The best young cyclist in this classification (less than 26 years) is awarded with a white jersey. Each stage also hands out points for the finishing place, and the best cyclist in the points classification wears a green jersey. Finally each ascent of a hill or mountain gives points towards the mountain classification, and the leader in this ranking gets a polka dot jersey (white with red dots). The white jersey is awarded since 1975, at the same time as the polka dot jersey. The yellow jersey debuted in 1933, and the green jersey in 1955.

7. Which tennis Grand Slam tournament enforces a strictly all-white dress code for players?

Answer: Wimbledon

The dress code on London's All England Lawn Tennis and Racquet Club, Wimbledon courts harks back to Victorian standards. All accessories, shoes, arm and head bands, visible underwear, etc., must be the same pristine white as the main items of dress. Only narrow bands of color are allowed on the outside edge of clothes, and virtually no coloured logos are allowed. In 2013, Roger Federer was sternly spoken to when he played in tennis shoes with orange soles. The dress code has since been modified to close the loophole on this (shudder) shocking breach of court etiquette.

8. Of the following participants in a netball game, which would most likely be wearing white?

Answer: Umpire

As with many other sports, netball umpires traditionally wear white, however this may change with sponsorship of different competitions. White is generally worn to differentiate umpires from the players on court, and also doesn't absorb heat - it's a hot job running up and down the sidelines attempting to control a game!

9. In 1982, the South Melbourne football club moved to Sydney and became the Sydney Swans. How did their team colours change?

Answer: They remained red and white

South Melbourne Football Club was formed on 19th June 1874. It was a profitable and successful club for many years. By 1980 the club was struggling, as their traditional inner-city supporting area emptied as a result of demographic shifts. The move to Sydney was proposed but was opposed by the "Keep South at South" campaign. However, the move progressed. Today, Sydney has taken "The Swannies" into its heart and it is a very successful team.

10. Traditionally, in which form of cricket do players wear white uniforms?

Answer: Test

Cricket was originally played in the test format with matches spread across five days and each team batting for two innings. One day internationals were introduced in the 1970s to address waning audience interest and as the name implies were played in one day. With audience attention spans shrinking even further, the Twenty20 format was introduced in the 2000s reducing the game to 20 overs each side.

One day internationals and Twenty20 have players wearing coloured uniforms, a move introduced for ODIs initially to make the game more attractive to viewers. Test cricket is regarded by purists as the true test of a player's or team's mettle. Both sides wear full white uniforms in test cricket. This kit is generally known as "cricket whites".
