1. The Minnesota Vikings franchise began in 1961 with a 3-11 record. Who had the reins of the team for their first six seasons?

Answer: Norm VanBrocklin

VanBrocklin had only two winning seasons in his run with the Vikings. In 1964, the team went 8-5-1, and in 1965 they went 7-6. Bud Grant would take over from VanBrocklin, and have the team for the next 17 seasons.

2. In which season did the Vikings win their first playoff game?

Answer: 1969

After losing their first NFL Divisional playoff game to the Baltimore Colts in 1968, the Vikings went all the way in 1969, defeating the Rams and Browns, then finding themselves in the Super Bowl IV. The Kansas City Chiefs had other ideas, and put Minnesota down 23-7.

3. As a Viking, which of the following quarterbacks retired with the most touchdown passes?

Answer: Fran Tarkenton

Tarkenton played 13 of this 18 seasons with the Vikings, and the other five with the New York Giants. From 1961-1978, he threw 239 TD passes for the Vikings, and 342 overall. The nine-time Pro Bowler also set a franchise record for an amazing 33,098 passing yards.

4. Who was the first Viking to rush for over 6000 yards in their uniform?

Answer: Robert Smith

Smith played his entire Viking career from 1993-2000. He rushed for 6818 yards including four 1000-yard seasons. His season high was in his final season, rushing for 1521 yards. Robert also caught 178 passes. Foreman, the high-kicking back in the 1970s, fell just short of 5800 yards for Minnesota.

5. The playoffs are supposed to pit the best against the best, but the Vikings did not bring their game-face to the 2000 NFC Championship game. They lost 41-0 to which team?

The others were all AFC teams. After the Vikings went 11-5 in the season, they were embarrassed in the playoffs by the Giants after easily defeating the Saints. The 2000 Vikings were led by Daunte Culpepper, running back Robert Smith, and wide receiver Randy Moss.

Scoring the most points in the NFL in 1998 with 556, the Vikings had high hopes going into the playoffs, but lost the NFC Championship game to the Falcons, 30-27.

Plunkett played for the Patriots, 49ers, and Raiders, from 1971-1986. Dils was found on the 1983 Vikings roster, Gannon in 1992, and McMahon in 1993.

Answer: 0

They lost to the Chiefs in Super Bowl IV, 23-7. The Dolphins were next in Super Bowl VIII, and beat the Vikings 24-7. The following season, Minnesota lost to Terry Bradshaw and the Steelers. At Super Bowl XI, they lost at the hands of the Raiders, 32-14.

9. Entering the franchise's 47th season in 2007, how many head coaches did the Vikings have in their record books?

Answer: 7

Brad Childress was the franchise's seventh head coach in 2007, after replacing the fired Mike Tice in early 2006. The other heads of the team were Norm VanBrocklin, Bud Grant, Les Steckel in his only season in 1984, Jerry Burns, and Dennis Green. Bud Grant helmed the team to a 158-96 record in his head coaching career.

Answer: Detroit Lions

The other teams, the Vikings did not even have a .500 record with them. The Lions were embarrassed against the Vikings. At home against Detroit, the Vikings were 32-12-1, and on the road in Detroit they were 28-17-1.
