The league struggled to stay afloat until 1960, however most historians agree that 1948 was the last season that the league was of Major League quality, due to the rush of it's greatest stars entering the Majors.
3. Which event ultimately led to the demise of the Leagues?

Answer: Jackie Robinson signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Robinson's signing with the Dodgers for the 1947 season opened the door for many negro stars to follow, thus diluting the talent, appeal and fan following.
4. Jackie Robinson played how many years in the Negro League?

Answer: 1

Halls of Fame.
6. Satchel Paige was the biggest draw in the Negro League. Although he played for many teams during his tenure, which of the following had he never played for?

Answer: Brooklyn Royal Giants

Paige played for 25 years in the Negro Leagues with many teams, his first being the Chattanooga Black Lookouts (1926-7), and his last being the Kansas City Monarchs (1950). Although he returned to the Monarchs in 1955 after 4 years in the Major Leagues, he never regained his old form.
7. For which team did Satchel Paige play his last Major League entire season?

Answer: St. Louis Browns

Not only was 1953 the last year in the Majors for Paige, it was also the swan song for the Brownies who became the Baltimore Orioles in 1954. Paige was invited back to the Major Leagues a few times but only as an honorary team member. He did start one game in 1965 with the Kansas City Athletics.
8. Which of the following never played in the Negro Leagues?

Answer: Frank Robinson

Robinson came up with the Cincinnati Reds in 1956, and played there until 1965 before moving on to the Baltimore Orioles, where he played from 1966 until 1971. Newcombe and Irvin played with the Newark Eagles, while Mays played for the Birmingham Black Giants.
9. Which of the following quotes was NOT attributed to Satchel Paige?

Answer: Most people my age today are dead.

10. The National (Major) League lost only 1 All-Star Game in the entire decade of the 60's?

Answer: True

Aside from the American Leagues 9-4 victory in 1962, and a 9 inning tie in 1961, the National Leaguers won every other game of the decade. Most historians attribute this to the imbalance of black players between the leagues, with the American League being slow in signing them.
