Answer: Aaron passed his mark in 1974

Aaron ended the 1973 season with 713 home runs, and had to wait until the 1974 season to surpass the Babe. The Babe hit 54, 59, 60, and 54 home runs in a season during his career. He retired in 1935 as a Boston Brave.
