Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Troy Aikman won the Heisman Trophy.

Answer: False

One of the strangest things about Troy's college career was that he really didn't win a lot of awards, yet was still the number one pick in the 1989 draft.
2. What other professional sport was Troy Aikman drafted for?

Answer: Baseball

Troy was drafted by the New York Mets out of high school in 1985.
3. Troy played for two Division 1A schools. We all know about UCLA, but what college did he transfer in from?

Answer: Oklahoma

Troy attended Oklahoma in 1985 under Barry Switzer, for whom he would also play in the NFL. Troy broke his leg in the 5th game against Miami, coached by none other than Jimmy Johnson, and had to sit the rest of the year. Oklahoma won the NCAA title that year using the wishbone offense, which is run oriented. Switzer didn't want to switch back to a pass oriented offense, so he helped Troy get into a program which would use his passing skills better than at Oklahoma, and the rest is, as we say, history.
4. Troy won how many games in his rookie season playing for the Dallas Cowboys?

Answer: 0

The Dallas Cowboys won only 1 game in 1989, Troy's rookie season. Unfortunately, Troy broke a finger in game 5, and missed the Cowboys victory over their bitter rivals the Washington Redskins. Troy's record was 0-11, but better things were on the horizon.
5. In 1997, Troy became the first quarterback in Cowboys history to do which of the following?

Answer: Pass for over 3,000 yards for three straight years

Troy rushed for 302 yards his rookie season, no doubt running for his life behind a very weak offensive line, but never again rushed for over 175 yards in a season. Roger Staubach actually accomplished the rushing feat during the 1973, 1974 and 1975 seasons, rushing for 250, 320, and 316 yards respectively.
Troy threw for over 16 touchdowns in only 3 seasons; 1992, 1997, & 1999. With Emmitt Smith running, Troy didn't have to win with passing.
Troy only surpassed the 65% completion rate in 1991 & 1993 with 65.3% & 69.1% respectively.
6. How many times was Troy selected to the Pro Bowl?

Answer: 6

Troy was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997.
7. How many games did it take for Troy to surpass the 10,000 yard mark?

Answer: 52

This occurred in 1992.
8. Troy won more games than any other quarterback in the 1990s. How many games did he win?

Answer: 90

Troy set the record for wins by any QB in history for a specific decade.
9. Troy finished the season with a passer rating greater than 95 how many times?

Answer: 1

In 1993, Troy finished with a 99.0 passer rating. In 1995, he finished at 93.6. In no other year did he finish at or above 90.
10. Troy started in every regular season game he played?

Answer: True

Troy played in 165 regular season games, and started all of them.
