Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the main event of Ultimate Fight Night 3, Tim Sylvia managed to survive through a tough decision against a fighter who made his UFC debut. Who was this fighter?

Answer: Assuerio Silva

Although the decision was unanimous, Silva pressured him the entire fight and gave Tim Sylvia arguably his toughest fight to date, aside from his losses.
2. UFC 57 was subtitled as being Liddell vs. Couture 3, but another former champion was making his return after a 19- month absence. Who was this former champion?

Answer: Frank Mir

Mir was definitely one of the best and most exciting heavyweight fighters around until an unfortunate motorcycle accident. UFC 57 marked his return, although it was in a losing effort to newcomer Marcio Cruz.
3. The 58th UFC event featured a competition between the U.S.A. and Canada in 8 fights. What was the final outcome of this friendly competition?

Answer: USA 5 - Canada 3

It featured a great fight between Georges St Pierre and BJ Penn, as well as other great fighters such as David Loiseau, Nathan Marquardt, and then UFC champion Rich Franklin.
4. The second Ultimate Fight Night of 2006 featured almost all of the matchups involving competitors from either Ultimate Fighter 1 or 2. Of the fighters from Ultimate Fighter 2 that were involved in matches, which one of these won their match?

Answer: Luke Cummo

Fellow Long Island resident and Serra Jiu-Jitsu product Luke Cummo, won his match against fellow TUF 2 alum, Jason Von Flue, via unanimous decision. Both Stevenson and Jardine lost by a decision as well, with Jardine putting forth a very good effort, and Josh Burkman lost late in the second round via a rear naked choke, curteosy of the very underrated Jon Fitch.
5. In mid-April, UFC 59 came rolling around, which was named Reality Check. I think this was very aptly named because of a performance from a certain TUF graduate. Which fighter gave this very impressive performance?

Answer: Forrest Griffin

Forrest Griffin went toe to toe with Tito Ortiz, one of the best fighters in his or any decision that the UFC has had. Not only did he go toe to toe, but he lasted an entire fight and damn near beat Ortiz. He lost by split decision, but this fight helped everyone realize that the products for the Ultimate Fighter series were indeed for real and could compete against the best in the UFC.
6. UFC 60 marked the return of UFC legend, Royce Gracie to the octagon, as he took on UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes in a non-title match. It was very clear after about two minutes that Gracie's style was no match for Hughes takedowns and ground game. Hughes locked on a vicious submission hold, but to my surprise and probably everyone else, Royce did not tap out or even look to be in pain. Which move was this?

Answer: armlock

When I saw that Gracie didn't even look affected by the fact that his arm might have been broken, I thought that he would pull it out for sure. But alas, he was turned over, Hughes took his back and pounded on him until the referee stopped the fight.
7. UFC Fight Night 6 was headlined by an entertaining fight between Diego Sanchez and Karo Parisyan that wound up going to a decision. But before that fight, which fighter earned a knockout victory over their opponent Jorge Santiago?

Answer: Chris Leben

Leben was just coming off his first UFC loss against the Muay Thai expert Anderson Silva, so this knockout boosted his confidence back up, considering how quickly Silva had knocked him out in the previous fight.
8. UFC 63 was definitely a great PPV for those fans which like to see knockouts, with four out of the five featured fights ending in either TKO or KO. Which of these fighters wound up being the one that did not lose their match by this method?

Answer: Joe Lauzon

Joe Lauzon actually shocked many fans by knocking out the returning Jens Pulver about forty seconds into the fight. He certainly killed all the hype for the first UFC Lightweight champ's return.
9. UFC 64 was ironically titled 'Unstoppable'. I consider this ironic because before his fight, Rich Franklin could have been considered the closest thing to an unstoppable champion. However, Anderson Silva proved him and everyone else wrong when he managed to knock Franklin's lights out three minutes into the first round. Which of these mistakes did Franklin make that cost him the fight?

Answer: He tried to clinch with Silva

The result was a barrage of vicious knees that severely damaged his ribs, causing his hands to drop to protect him and allowing Silva to punch and knee him in the face.
10. AT UFC 66, Liddell vs Ortiz II, more Ultimate Fighter alums won their fight than lost?

Answer: False

TUF 3 winner for light heavyweight Michael Bisping won his fight, as did Keith Jardine, who might have the best nickname ever with "The Dean of Mean". But Forrest Griffin and Chris Leben from TUF 1 lost their fights, as did TUF competitor Rory Singer. To their credit, all three men fought very tough fighters, even though Leben and Griffin were considered favorites in their fight.
