Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who scored the basket that gave John Stockton his record breaking 9,922nd career assist?

Answer: Karl Malone

That was pretty much a given! The Mailman has probably given Stockton close to half of the assists he's earned in his entire career. I had goosebumps! John Stockton is my all time favorite professional athlete.
2. What is Karl Malone's record for most points scored in a single game during the 1990s?

Answer: 61

Malone scored 61 points against the Milwaukee Bucks on January 27th, 1990. He was upset about A.C. Green edging him in the voting for the all star game starting power forward, so he went out and scored 61 points and grabbed 18 rebounds. A.C. played the same night and scored 11 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.
3. What arena do the Utah Jazz call home?

Answer: Delta Center

The Jazz moved from the Salt palace to The Delta Center in October, 1991. It has a maximum capacity of 20,400. The Pepsi Center is in Denver. The United Center is in Chicago. The Staples Center is in Los Angeles.
4. Larry Miller, the owner of the Utah Jazz in 2001, is a very successful businessman. What business (other than NBA franchise owner) is Miller associated with?

Answer: Auto Dealership Owner

Larry Miller is a very successful car dealer. His family moved to Utah with only a few hundred dollars to their name in the early 1980s.
5. What is the farthest the Jazz advanced in the playoffs in the 1990s?

Answer: NBA Finals

The Jazz went to the NBA Finals in 1997 and 1998. They lost to the Chicago Bulls in 6 games both times. Game 6 of the 1998 Finals was a 1 point loss for the Jazz which gave the Bulls the title. There were 5 points worth of bad shot clock violation calls that favored the Bulls in that game, but I'm not making excuses ... okay, yes I am! LOL!
6. What is the highest number of assists John Stockton tallied in a single game during the 1990s?

Answer: 28

This is one of the few assist records John Stockton does not own. The record for most assists in a single game is owned by Scott Skiles (Orlando Magic) who amassed 30 in a single game on December 30th, 1990 against Denver.
7. What was Pete Maravich's nickname?

Answer: Pistol

I hope nobody guessed Chocolate Thunder! LOL! Chocolate Thunder was the nickname of Darryl Dawkins. George Gervin was the Ice Man. Dr. P is a soft drink, or a slight variation of Dr. J (Julius Erving), whichever way you prefer to look at it.
8. Along with being the NBA's all time leader in assists, what other category can John Stockton say he's the NBA's all time leader in?

Answer: Steals

Stockton is also the all time leader in steals. There are a couple of nice plaques hanging in the Delta Center which acknowledge his accomplishments. You didn't say 'blocks', did you?
9. What pick of the draft was used to select John Stockton?

Answer: 16th

John Stockton was chosen 16th in the 1983 draft. I'd say 15 teams sure missed out!
10. What pick of the draft was used to select Karl Malone?

Answer: 13th

Karl Malone went 13th in the 1984 draft. The Jazz have got themselves some amazing talent with reletively high picks over the years!
