Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What Browns player fumbled just before scoring what may have been the winning touchdown, in the 1987 AFC Championship game?

Answer: Earnest Byner

Byner was a player who gave 110% on the field at all times, so it's a shame that this happened to him. The Broncos won the game 38-33 and went on to play the Redskins in Super Bowl XXII. The Browns had never been in a Super Bowl, and did not make it there for the rest of the century, but Byner did as a member of the Redskins Super Bowl XVI squad.
2. How many playoff games did the Browns win during the 1970s?

Answer: 0

The Browns lost in the first round of the 1971 playoffs to the Baltimore Colts, 20-3. The following year, they lost in the first round to the undefeated Miami Dolphins, 20-14. They did not qualify for the playoffs for the rest of the decade.
3. What team did the Browns defeat for their final playoff victory of the 20th century?

Answer: New England Patriots

The Browns won in Cleveland over the Pats, 20-13 in a 1994 AFC Wildcard game.
4. Who was the last team to beat the Browns in a playoff game in the 20th century?

Answer: Pittsburgh Steelers

In the second round of the 1994 playoffs, the Steelers beat the Browns 29-9. The following season the Browns finished at 5-11, and then left Cleveland to become the Baltimore Ravens.
5. After having no team for 3 seasons, the Browns returned to the NFL in 1999. What was their win/loss record in their first season back?

Answer: 2-14

The Browns weren't exactly welcomed back kindly by the rest of the league, as they limped to a 2-14 season. Their two wins came against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New Orleans Saints.
6. The Browns once had two brothers, Mike and Greg Pruitt, on their roster at the same time during the 1970s?

Answer: False

Mike and Greg Pruitt did both play for the Browns at the same time. In fact, they were both running backs who went over 1,000 yards in a season for the team. They were not, however, related.
7. How many NFL Championships did the Browns win, while Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown was a member of the team?

Answer: 1

Though Brown did not score in the game, he did set up one of the 3 Browns TD's with a 46 yard run. All 3 Browns TD's were passes from Frank Ryan to Gary Collins. The Browns beat the heavily favored Baltimore Colts, 27-0.
8. The Browns finished with a winning record during the regular season in every year of Jim Brown's career?

Answer: True

Jim Brown played from 1957-1965. The Browns had a winning record each of those seasons.
9. Which of these NFL records once belonged to Browns QB Bernie Kosar?

Answer: most consecutive pass attempts with no interception

From 1990-1991 Kosar amazingly threw 308 straight passes without an interception. He broke Bart Starr's record of 294.
10. Who was the last Browns' running back to rush for 1,000 yards or more during the 20th century?

Answer: Kevin Mack and Earnest Byner did it the same year

In 1985, Mack rushed for 1,104 yards and Byner rushed for 1,002. It was only the third time that two players on the same team rushed for over 1,000 yards in the same season. However, it began a 1,000 yard rushing season draught for the Browns, as no other player accomplished it for the remainder of the century, the longest such draught of any NFL team during that time period.
