1. Not a big name, he played his entire ABA career with the Kentucky Colonels. Who was the leading scorer in ABA history?

Answer: Louis Dampier

Louis Dampier scored a total of 13,726 points with a scoring average of 15.9. Despite not being a big name, Dampier made the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015. He was also a seven time ABA All-Star and won the championship in 1975.

Dan Issel was an all-time great who was voted into the Hall of Fame in 2006. Issel finished with 12,823 points in the ABA with a scoring average of 25.6. Issel was a six time ABA All-Star, and won the championship in 1975. He played with the Kentucky Colonels from 1970-1975 and then the Denver Nuggets from 1975 to 1976 before the NBA merger. He also had a long run with the Denver Nuggets in the NBA. He also made the ABA All-Time team.

Ron Boone was a four time all-ABA All-Star and scored a grand total of 12,153 with a scoring average of 18.4. He played for Dallas/Texas Chaparrals from 1968 to 1971, Utah Stars from 1971-1975 and Spirits of Saint Louis from 1975 to 1976. He also won the title in 1971.

Mel Daniels was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame 2012. Daniels scored 11,739 points in the ABA with a scoring average of 18.7 and a rebound average of 14.9 a game. Mel played for the following teams: Minnesota Muskies (1967-1968), Indiana Pacers (1968-1974), Memphis Sounds (1974-1975) and New York Nets (1976). Mel won 3 titles in 1970, 1972 and 1973 and was also named to the all-time ABA All-Time Team.

Mel Daniels was the leader with 9,494 rebounds with an average of 14.9 per game. He had a 2,000 lead on the second leading rebounder.

Artis Gilmore was second with 7,169 with an average of a staggering 17.1 rebounds a game. Artis played from 1971-1976 with the Kentucky Colonels. He also had a very noteworthy career in the NBA. He was the MVP in 1971-1972 and won the championship in 1974-1975. He was also a five time all-star and made the Hall of Fame in 2011.

Gerald Govan came in third with 7,119 rebounds with an average of 10.5 rebounds per game. He was an all-star in 1970. Govan was a journeyman and played with the following teams: New Orleans Buccaneers, Memphis Pros, Utah Stars and the Virginia Squires.

Red Robbins finished fourth with 6,155 rebounds, averaging 10.1 rebounds a game. Red made three all-star games and won a championship in 1971. He also was a journeyman playing for the following teams: New Orleans Buccaneers, Utah Stars, San Diego Conquistadors, Kentucky Colonels and the Virginia Squires.

Louis Dampier led in both scoring and assists. He is also a Hall-of-Famer. He averaged 5.6 assists per game with a grand total of 4,044.

Mack Calvin was second all-time in assists with 3,067, averaging 5.8 per game. Mack played in five all-star games from 1971-1975. Calvin played for the following teams: Los Angeles Stars, The Floridians, Carolina Cougars, Denver Nuggets and Virginia Squires.

Bill Melchionni was third all-time in assists with 3,044, averaging 6.1 assists per game. Bill played in three all-star games from 1971-1973. He won two championships with New Jersey Nets in 1974 and 1976. Bill played his whole ABA career with New Jersey Nets.

Freddie Lewis was fourth all-time in assists with 2,883, averaging 4.2 assists per game. He went to four all-star games in 1968, 1970, 1972 and 1975.

Answer: Indiana Pacers

Indiana Pacers won three ABA titles while also finishing twice two times.

Utah Stars won three ABA titles while losing none. In each title, the MVP came from the losing team. In 1969/1970 they played as the Los Angeles Stars.

Oakland Oaks won one ABA title. Guard Warren Jabali was the MVP of the championship.

New Orleans Buccaneers were runners-up in the first ABA season.

Answer: Julius Erving

Julius Erving, one of the all time greats, won the ABA scoring championship in a season three times. His first was as a Virginia Squire, while the last two were with the New York Nets.

Connie Hawkins won the first ABA leading scorer. He is also a Hall of Famer. He averaged 26.8 points per game.

Rick Barry won the second ABA leading scorer in 1968-1969 while playing with the Oakland Oaks. Barry averaged 34.0 points per game. Barry is also a Hall of Famer.

Charlie Scott averaged 34.6 points per game, which was an ABA single season record. He did this while playing for the Virginia Squires.

Caldwell was a very good player who spent three years in the ABA before embarking on a long NBA career.

Billy Paultz put up good numbers in his six year ABA career, five of them with the New York Nets. He led the league in 1976-1977 with 3.0 a game and also had a lengthy NBA career.

Julius Erving came up fourth. Erving was truly amazing as he dominated in mostly every important stat. As a forward he still averaged two blocks a game, plus his stellar NBA career. One of the all-time best performers.
10. Who won the Coach of the Year Award in the ABA the most times? He has also won at the NCAA and NBA level.

Answer: Larry Brown

Larry Brown won the award four times with Carolina and Denver in the ABA. He also won championships in the NCAA at Kansas and in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons.

Bobby "Slick" Leonard won three championships with the Indiana Pacers, curiously without winning a Coach of the Year.

Babe McCarthy coached four teams in the ABA, finally winning the Coach of the Year with the Kentucky Colonels.

Al Bianchi coached mostly the Virginia Squires, where he won his one lone Coach of the Year award.
