Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who wears the #1 jersey?

Answer: Fullback

Sometimes a captain would wear it, but only if the captain is the fullback. Besides, Captain is not a position, it is an honour. One of the most famous fullbacks of all-time was Souths legend Clive Churchill. The fullback position is at the back of the field, and is a kind of last option for the defensive team. There is no quarterback is Rugby League.
2. What numbers do the wingers wear?

Answer: 2 and 5

Wingers flank the sides of the field, they're generally the fastest men in the team. Wendell Sailor was a great winger for the Broncos, Queensland, and Australia.
3. What numbers do the centres wear?

Answer: 3 and 4

Centres play just inside the wingers. Mal Meninga was a famous centre. He captained the Kangaroos in 1990, and won several premierships with the Canberra Raiders.
4. A five-eighth wears what number?

Answer: 6

I never thought this made much sense, until I saw the field placings of the teams (he is 5 eighths across the field). Laurie Daley and Brad Fittler are legendary five-eighths (pivots). So is Wally Lewis.
5. A halfback wears which number?

Answer: 7

A halfback feeds a scrum, which is when the forwards in both teams push against each other in an interlocking huddle. Andrew Johns will probably finish his career as the best halfback ever.
6. What number will a lock have on his back?

Answer: 13

He locks the scrum. Luke Ricketson has been a great lock for the Roosters, and also broke the record for the most amount of first-grade games, played for the Tri-colours, in 2002.
7. What numbers are worn by the second rowers?

Answer: 11 and 12

They are the second row in the scrum. Gorden Tallis has been a good second rower for the Broncos, and unfortunately (from a New South Welshman's point of view), also for Queensland. He captained Australia in the end of season Test Match against the Kiwis in 2002.
8. What number does a hooker wear?

Answer: 9

A hooker is also known as a rake, first receiver, or dummy-half. Geoff Toovey (Manly) was a great hooker. Many hookers are short just like him.
9. What numbers do the props wear?

Answer: 8 and 10

They are the biggest players in the team. The props (8 and 10) and the hooker (9) make up the front row. Glenn Lazarus was the first player to win premierships with three different clubs, Canberra, Brisbane, and Melbourne. He was also a prop.
10. What numbers will interchange players wear?

Answer: 14-17

They are also known as utility or bench players, and in Rugby League there are 4 of them.
