1. Reggie Jackson set a World Series record for hitting 5 home runs in one series. His record stood for more than 30 years. Which decade did Reggie blast those against the Los Angeles Dodgers?

Answer: 1970s

It was the 1977 series that saw the Yankees and Dodgers go at it. Jackson hit one in game four, one in game five, and to put the cherry on the cake, he hit three in game six. The Yankees won the series four games to two, and Jackson was the series MVP.
2. Hall of Fame great Yogi Berra won three season MVP awards in the same decade. Which decade was dominated by this Yankee?

Answer: 1950s

The Yankee catcher not only won the AL MVPs in 1951, 1954, and 1955, but from 1950-1956, Yogi was in the top four for the MVP every season. He had a potential seven consecutive MVP awards at his doorstep. Berra went to an amazing 14 World Series with the Yankees, winning 10. The Hall of Fame took Yogi in 1972.
3. Mordecai Brown, Babe Ruth, Herb Pennock, and Hack Wilson all died in the same year of which decade?

Answer: 1940s

They all died in 1948, and are all Hall of Fame inductees. Pennock, a Yankee and Boston pitcher, died in the same year the hall inducted him, but never saw the ceremony.

The Black Sox Scandal was the rigging of the 1919 World Series. After a thorough investigation, numerous White Sox players were banned for their partictipation, including pitcher Eddie Cicotte and future all-star Joe Jackson, all in 1920. The Cincinnati Reds won the 1919 series, five games to three.
5. The first pitcher in history to hit two grand slams in one game was a member of the Braves in the National League. Which decade did this pitcher do this?

Answer: 1960s

The pitcher was Tony Cloninger of the Atlanta Braves. On July 3, 1966, Tony hit two grand salamis, a pitching record that would still stand at the turn of the century. Cloninger went 14-11 and hit five home runs in the 1966 season.
6. The first pitching Triple Crown occurred in which decade?

Answer: 1870s

The first Triple Crown was thrown by Tommy Bond of the Boston Red Caps in the National League in 1877. Bond, in his fourth season, led the league with his 40-17 record, 2.11 ERA, and 170 strikeouts. He had five more wins and 29 more strikeouts than runner-up Jim Devlin of the Louisville Grays.

The first batting Triple Crown was won by Jim Hines of the newly formed Providence Grays in 1878.
7. Which decade saw the Chicago Cubs win their first World Series?

Answer: 1900s

The World Series began in 1903, pitting Boston against Pittsburgh. With only six World Series played in that decade, the Cubs went to three consecutive, and won two against the Detroit Tigers in 1907 and 1908. This was the era of "Tinker to Evers to Chance", their famous and most feared double-play combination.
8. Which decade saw for the first time in Yankee history, two pitchers throw a perfect game?

Answer: 1990s

In May 1998, David Wells threw a perfecto against the Twins, and David Cone beat the Blue Jays 6-0 in July 1999. Wells later admitted that he was drunk during his game, putting him in the doghouse with owner George Steinbrenner. This led to his trade to the Blue Jays after the season.
9. Which decade saw the first black umpire in Major League baseball?

Answer: 1960s

The first African-American umpire was Emmitt Ashford, who called the game in the American League in 1965. Ashford retired in 1970, then died in 1980. The turn of the century still failed to see his name in the Hall of Fame.
10. This decade saw the first pitcher in history to win a Cy Young award in both the American and National League in different seasons. Which decade was this?

Answer: 1970s

The Cy Young award began in 1956 with Dodger Don Newcombe winning the inaugural award. Gaylord Perry won his first with the AL Cleveland Indians in 1972, then again in 1978 with the NL San Diego Padres. Perry pitched for 22 seasons from 1962-1983, and retired with a 314-265 career record. 1991 saw the Hall of Fame inductee Gaylord.
