2. The 36th Pool Match was the vital Pool A clash between those old rivals, India and Pakistan. The winning team was guaranteed a place in the Super Sixes. Who won, and what was the winning margin?

Answer: India by 6 wickets

Pakistan scored 7/273 (Saeed Anwar 101) and India replied with 4/276, winning in the 46th over. Sachin Tendulkar was named Man of the Match for his innings of 98 off 75 balls.
3. On 2 March, the 37th Pool Match was played at Port Elizabeth between the two oldest cricket-playing nations, England and Australia. What was the highlight of this match?

Answer: Andy Bichel's batting and bowling

This was the match that England had in the bag, and let slip away! England scored 8/204 off their 50 overs. Alec Stewart top scored with 46. Hussain scored only 1. Andy Bichel took 7/20 off ten overs. Australia were reeling at 8/135 when Bichel joined Michael Bevan, and together they hit the winning runs in a unbeaten partnership of 73 for the ninth wicket. Bevan scored 74* and Bichel (Man of the Match) made 34*. Andy Caddick didn't take a hat-trick and Australia's top order failed for once!
4. New Zealand played Canada in the 38th Pool Match at Benoni, a match which they needed to win by a good margin to have any hope of making the Super Sixes. Did they do it?

Answer: Yes

Canada batted first and with John Davison in brilliant form, scored 196 off 47 overs. Davison made 75 off 62 balls. He also took 3/61 off ten overs in the New Zealand innings of 5/197. However, New Zealand's run rate of 8.56 was enough to ensure their Super Six position.
5. The Namibia - Netherlands match at Bloemfontein provided some entertaining cricket. What was notable about individual performances?

Answer: Two Dutch batsmen scored centuries

The Netherlands scored 4/314, Feiko Kloppenburg (121) and Klaas-Jan van Noortwijk (134*) scoring centuries. No Namibian bowler took 8 wickets. There were three Burgers playing for Namibia, but only "J.B.", with 41, made it to double figures, in Namibia's innings of 250.
6. The 40th Pool Match at Kingsmead, Durban was a must-win game for South Africa, if they were to progress to the Super Sixes. Sri Lanka batted first and made 9/268. South Africa got to 6/229 off 45 overs. What happened next?

Answer: It rained, and under the Duckworth/Lewis method, the result was declared a tie

An amazing end to a game of cricket! South Africa thought they had won, but in fact they were one run short, meaning they failed to qualify for the Super Sixes.
7. Who was named Man of the Match in the South Africa-Sri Lanka Pool Match at Kingsmead?

Answer: Marvin Attapattu

Attapattu hit 124 in Sri Lanka's innings of 9/268, and da Silva 73. For South Africa, Gibbs also made 73. Kallis took 3/41 in Sri Lanka's innings.

Chris Gayle top scored with 119 in the Windies' innings of 7/246. Kenya replied with 104 all out. Earlier, the Pool Match between Pakistan and Zimbabwe had been "washed out", both teams taking two points. However, this meant Pakistan missed a Super Six position.
9. After the 21 Pool A matches, which of these teams joined Australia and India in the Super 6s?

Answer: Zimbabwe

Australia were top qualifier with 12 points carried through to the Super Sixes. India had eight points and Zimbabwe 3.5 points.
