1. In the first 100 World Series, many pitchers have shown their stuff by winning three games in a single series. Who was the first to do this in two different World Series?

Answer: Nobody did this

The list of three-game winners in the first 100 included Babe Adams, Harry Brecheen, Lew Burdette, Jack Coombs, Stan Coveleski, Bill Dineen, Randy Johnson, Red Faber, Bob Gibson, Mickey Lolich, Christy Mathewson, Deacon Phillippe, and Joe Wood. Nobody did it twice.
2. In the first 100 World Series, the top 10 players for most runs scored was held by all Yankee players except for one. Which non-Yankee finished 10th for career World Series runs scored?

Answer: Jackie Robinson

Robinson of the Dodgers scored 22 runs in his six World Series with Brooklyn. The top nine, and all Yankees were Mickey Mantle with 42, Yogi Berra with 41, Babe Ruth 37, Lou Gehrig 30, Joe DiMaggio and Derek Jeter with 27 each, Roger Maris 26, Elston Howard 25, and Gil McDougald with 23 ahead of Robinson.

Answer: Craig Monroe

The Tigers had four sluggers hit 20+ home runs in the season. Monroe hit 28, Inge 27, Thames 26, and Ordonez hit 24. The Tigers also had two 17-game winners in Justin Verlander and Kenny Rogers.

Answer: Phil Garner

The franchise began as the Colt .45s in 1962 under the helm of Harry Craft. They had to wait until the 2005 season under Phil Garner for a ticket to the promised land. They were skunked four games to none by the White Sox of Chicago and manager Ozzie Guillen.

In order, the A's defeated the Reds 4-3, the Mets 4-3, and finally the Dodgers 4-1. In 100 World Series beginning in 1903, the Athletics' franchise appeared in 14 World Series, and their only skunk job was in 1989 given to the San Francisco Giants.

The Yankees-Giants World Series often pitted the two greatest franchises in baseball. They met in the 1921, 1922, 1923, 1936, 1937, and 1951 World Series. The Yankees won four of their six meetings.

After managing the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1894-1896, Mack moved to the new American League in 1901 with the Philadelphia club. The Athletics' first World Series was in 1905 in the second Major League World Series but lost. 1910 brought him and his team their first series win against the Cubs. Mack and his Athletics won five of the eight World Series. Mack retired from baseball in 1950, although he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1937.

Answer: Mickey Mantle

The 'Commerce Comet' struck out 54 times in his 12 World Series. On the other side of the coin, Mantle had 59 hits, 18 home runs, and 40 RBIs.

Answer: Lefty Williams

Williams was in his sixth season of Major League baseball in 1919 with the Chicago White Sox. After going no-decision in his only other World Series in 1917, Claude had a chance to shine, but certainly did not. He started three games in the 1919 series and allowed 12 hits, 12 runs, and eight walks in only 16 and 1/3 innings.
10. Which of the following players set a record for stolen bases in one World Series, then tied his own record in the following season?

Answer: Lou Brock

Lou Brock of the St. Louis Cardinals broke the record of Pirate Honus Wagner who stole six bases in the 1909 World Series against the Tigers. Brock stole seven bases in the 1967 series against the Red Sox, then stole another seven against the Tigers in 1968. Brock also broke Maury Wills' season stolen base record of 104 by stealing 118 in 1974. Lou retired in 1979 with 938 stolen bases.
