'The Kill' hit 559 home runs as a Twin. He set a team record for dingers in a season when he hit 49 in 1964, and tied that in 1969. He played all his 22 seasons in a Senator/Twins uniform, except for his final season with the Kansas City Royals in 1975, when he hit his final 14 home runs.

The Washington Senators became the Minnesota Twins in 1961. The franchise began in 1901. Cookie Lavagetto managed the team in 1960, and transitioned them to Minnesota in 1961.

He received 275 votes, ahead of runner-up teammate Tony Oliva with 174 votes. Versalles with his 19 first place votes, and Oliva with one, were the only players in 1965 to receive first place MVP votes on the ballots.
