Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the aftermath of Erica's abortion, ratings for the show began to drop.

Answer: False

Erica became pregnant with Jeff Martin's baby. And, she decided that she would get an abortion since she did not want to gain weight from the pregnancy, and lose her modeling career. She terminated her pregnancy, and when she did this, it was immediately after the U.S. Supreme Court decided the case, "Roe v. Wade." Despite the controversial tone of this story, the show's ratings increased nearly a whole ratings point.

In 2006, it was revealed that Erica did not actually have an abortion but rather her fetus was transplanted into another woman's body.
2. Which of these women got married in 1973?

Answer: Anne Tyler

Anne started to really fall in love with Paul and she wanted to be his wife. They decided to get married and were wed in 1973. Paul knew that Anne was pregnant, with Nick's baby, and decided he would still love the child as if he/she was his own. Anne had a miscarriage and Paul supported her as she grieved the loss of her unborn baby.
3. Who attempted to commit suicide in 1973?

Answer: Kitty Shea

Kitty and Nick's affair did not last long and they broke up. Right after their break up, Kitty realized she was pregnant and Nick knew about this. Anne told Nick to marry Kitty and he protested the idea, at first, but he and Kitty did marry. Kitty had a miscarriage and started to become depressed afterwards. Nick decided not to divorce Kitty since she was already starting to become unbalanced, due to depression, and a divorce would put her even more over the edge. Kitty tried to commit suicide but she failed.
4. When Erica went to have her abortion, she told the doctor at the clinic, that her husband, Jeff, knew about the abortion procedure and Erica's desire to terminate her pregnancy.

Answer: True

Erica went to the clinic, to get an abortion, and her doctor said he would need hers and her husband's consent to perform the abortion procedure. The doctor told Erica he wanted to discuss, with both her and Jeff, the procedure but Erica informed him her husband was a doctor and knew about the procedure. Erica also lied when she informed the doctor that she told Jeff she was going to get an abortion. Erica forged Jeff's name, on the consent form, so she could get the abortion.
5. "AMC" went on location in 1973, to tape Phil Brent's rescue. At what river did they tape the rescue?

Answer: Hudson

It was revealed, in 1973, that Phil was alive and he would be coming home from Vietnam. To film Phil's rescue, the show went on location to the Hudson River to tape the Vietnamese tributary where Phil would be rescued and brought back home. When Phil came back home, all he thought about was his love for Tara.
6. Dr. Clader, and who else, diagnosed Erica with an infection that resulted from an abortion?

Answer: Joe Martin

After Erica had her abortion, she began to get sick and was eventually hospitalized. While she was at the hospital, Dr. Clader and Joe looked into her case and found out Erica's collapse was due to an infection from the abortion. Joe was shocked since this was the first he had heard of Erica being pregnant. Jeff found out that Erica had the abortion, behind his back, and was furious with her.
7. Who convinced Mona to talk to Jeff about Erica's behavior?

Answer: Charles Tyler

Mona was disappointed in what Erica had done, with getting an abortion behind Jeff's back, and she realized that Jeff would listen to her if she spoke to him about Erica. Mona discussed talking to Jeff, with Charles Tyler, and Charles persuaded her to discuss the matter, with Jeff, and perhaps it would help him understand what motivated Erica to terminate her pregnancy. Mona informed Jeff that, while she did not like what Erica did, she realized Erica was young and would make foolish mistakes. This helped Jeff soften towards Erica.
8. Who urged Phil to move on from Tara, once Phil returned to Pine Valley?

Answer: Joe Martin

Phil was unhappy when he returned and realized that Tara had moved on and married Chuck Tyler. Joe spoke to Phil and told him that he understood why Phil was unhappy. Then, Joe told Phil he had to move on from Tara since she had also moved on with her life. When Phil came back to town, he was not immediately told that he was little Phillip's father.
9. Which doctor, at Pine Valley Hospital, tended to ten year old Tad Gardner?

Answer: Jeff Martin

Jeff and Mary Kennicott continued to grow closer and, one day, they treated a patient named Tad Gardner (Mary was actually a nurse). Everyone at the hospital learned that Tad's biological father, Ray Gardner, pushed him out of a car and drove off. Jeff and Mary took a liking to Tad and planned to adopt him. However, Tad was eventually adopted by Joe and Ruth Martin.
10. Who was arrested for Jason Maxwell's murder?

Answer: Jeff Martin

Erica continued to go see Jason Maxwell, in New York City, and they started to become lovers. Erica eventually told Jeff she wanted a divorce and he welcomed it since he no longer loved her. Erica manipulated Jason into thinking that Jeff was jealous of him. Jason went to Pine Valley to talk to Jeff and phoned Jeff, from his room at the Valley Inn, so they could talk. Jeff went to Jason's room and knocked on the door but nobody answered.

He opened the door and saw Jason's dead body on the floor. Jeff was arrested for Jason's murder.
