When the opening credits roll, you can see that Drew Goddard and Jeff Pinkner were credited for writing this episode of "Lost." For the first five seasons of the show, Goddard wrote a total of nine episodes while Pinker wrote a total of four episodes. Goddard also penned episodes for the TV shows, "Angel", "Alias", and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" while Pinker has written episodes for the TV shows, "Profiler", "Ally McBeal", and "Ally."

This episode contained many flashbacks, of John Locke, and we first saw him when he was at home and it was revealed that he had been suffering from depression. Apparently, Locke had forgone treatment and he did not get any disability benefits and all Locke did was eat and watch television. Locke was shown, in many flashbacks throughout the episode, as living like a recluse.

John got a visit, one day, from a man named Peter Talbot and Peter asked him if his name was John Locke. John told him he had the wrong person but Peter asked John if he had only one kidney left and this showed John that Peter knew how John was conned into giving away a kidney to his father. Locke told Peter to come into his home so they could talk.

Goodman appeared in this episode of "Lost", as Ryan Pryce, and he was in a total of three episodes for the first five seasons of the show. This was the first episode in which Goodman began to play Ryan Pryce. When Locke invited Peter into his home to talk to him, Peter informed Locke that his mother had met a man, a couple of months ago, named Adam Seward and that Adam worked as a computer entrepreneur in Ontario. Peter said he was bothered by Adam so he did some investigating, on him, and found out that Adam's name was actually Anthony Cooper, the name of Locke's father.

In one flashback, in the episode, John was in a floral shop and he saw his father with Peter's mother. Locke approached his father and told him that he knew he planned to con Peter's mother out of her money and he was to call off his engagement, to her, or he would tell her about his plan to con her. Locke's father agreed to call off the wedding.

Someone did die, in this episode, but it was actually Peter Talbot and not John's father that died. Locke found out about Peter's death when two detectives asked him if he knew anything about it but Locke said he did not. Locke went to his father's condo to confront his father about causing Peter's death but Locke's father said he had nothing to do with Peter dying. Locke and his father fought and Locke's father shoved him out of the window and that was how Locke became paralyzed.

Locke was immediately taken to the hospital, after his father shoved him out of a window and he fell eight stories, and the two detectives that Locke spoke to earlier came to his bedside. They told Locke that his father had fled, to Mexico, and they would continue to look for him. Locke's physical therapist came in and put him in a wheelchair and Locke started to adjust to being a paraplegic.

In the previous episode, Danielle, Kate, and Sayid were shocked when they saw that Jack was playing football with Tom, a member of The Others. As Jack and Tom played football, Juliet and Ben came outside and Jack shook Ben's hand. Kate insisted that something had been done, to Jack, by The Others to get him to be so friendly towards them.

It was nighttime and Kate sneaked out to go find Jack, at his house, and he told her she had to leave. Kate informed Jack she would not be going anywhere without him and Jack told her there was a security camera and The Others were watching him. While Jack and Kate spoke, two of The Others came in and they apprehended Kate. Kate lied to them when she said it was just her and Sayid that went to find Jack, knowing that Locke was also with them looking for Jack.
