Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This episode was written by Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Answer: False

It was written by Tim Minear. Tim wrote or co-wrote five episodes in season three. This was the first of those.
2. Who was Angel apologizing to as the episode opened?

Answer: Merle

During his season two madness, Angel had been rather unkind to Merle. He'd treated him like the shifty demon he was, which was completely different than Wesley had treated him. Wes had been the one to introduce Angel to Merle. The audience knew Darla was on her way back to town, so until Merle was seen, it was unclear who Angel may have been speaking to. Merle was not happy that Angel was reading off of note cards, and felt it lacked sincerity. Merle was played by actor Matthew James.

Angel: "I'm ashamed how I treated you. The way I used you. I took what I needed. Then I cast you aside. That, that was wrong of me. Very wrong."
3. Who drove Merle home from Caritas, where soon after he was murdered?

Answer: Gunn

Gunn sped away after Merle exited the truck. When Merle walked into his place, his killer was waiting for him to arrive. It wasn't until a bit later that the Angel Investigations gang realized who his killer was, leaving Gunn with a sticky moral dilemma.
4. Who played Gio, the demon hunter from Miami who'd joined with Gunn's old gang?

Answer: Khalil Kain

Gio came to Los Angeles on the pretense of doing some good, but all he did was spin the gang off their initial mission. They began killing any demons they came across, instead of focusing on the ones who endangered human lives. Gunn lost sight of his true mission briefly, but in the end realized he was on his true path. Gio made the mistake of singing inside Caritas, which allowed Lorne to read him.
Khalil Kain went on to star in the TV series "Girlfriends", in the movie "Bones", and guest star on the series "Medium".
5. Who said, "Angel wants ya to get out"?

Answer: Cordy

Cordy said this to Fred, after being prompted by Angel to have a talk with her. Fred had been very reclusive, and isolated herself from the world since her return from Pylea. Cordy had a hard time approaching the situation, and just blurted out the quote. Fred took it to mean she was supposed to actually move out of the hotel, but Angel just wanted her to get out and start living life again. Cordy offered to take her out for an evening, to which Fred agreed.

It turned out to be fortuitous because Fred saved the gang inside Caritas.
6. Angel told Gunn that he found a pattern in the "randomness" of the killings. What was the idea that Angel had, that was what connecting them all?

Answer: The killers were having fun

If anyone would be able to recognize homicidal fun, it would be Angel. He'd spent over 150 years, as Angelus, exploring life to that very end. Gunn questioned Angel as casually as he could, but Angel was a master at reading body language. Gunn was not fooling him at all.
7. Fred sang "Crazy" at Caritas.

Answer: True

The song was first popularized by Patsy Cline in the early 1960s, and written by Willie Nelson. Fred sang this song, which Cordy confirmed she'd chosen all on her own. Her song was interrupted when a hail of gunfire erupted. That "old gang" was in full affect.
8. "It was them. They killed Merle and the others. You knew." Who said this to Gunn inside Caritas?

Answer: Wes

This quote came just after Gunn protected Lorne from Gio and Rondell's crew. Gunn admitted to Wes he should have told him what he knew earlier. Then he told Rondell he'd lost the mission. Wes had the guns turned on him, and he reminded Rondell he'd last been shot helping him and his crew.
9. On Rondell's order, Cordy went out to bring Angel back to Caritas. Angel sent Cordy out to the Transcending Furies. What did he need the Furies to do?

Answer: Lift the Sanctorum spell at Caritas

That was the "no demon violence" spell Lorne had on the place to protect its patrons. He'd never imagined he'd also need a "no human violence" spell as well. The Furies seemed to have rather fond memories of Angel, and they did lift the spell.
10. While in Caritas, what kind of weapon did Fred use to threaten Gio's life?

Answer: Crossbow

Gio handed her his crossbow after she volunteered to "live" in exchange for killing Angel. He told her exactly how to use it to kill Angel and she turned it on him instead. Fred: "Although, I thought I might just shoot you in the throat instead." She told him that if she pierced his carotid artery with the temp being so warm inside the club, that the blood loss would be heavy and he'd have a stroke.

She also mentioned she might hit his vocal cords in the process, preventing him from emitting a scream that she knew he'd want to express. Gio ended up getting his head bitten off by a demon after the Sanctorum spell had been lifted.

At the end, Wes told Gunn if ever withheld info from him again he'd fire him.
