When Cardinal Benedetti realized it was Lieutenant Caine, he remarked that he did not realize it was Horatio's parish. Horatio explained that when the New York Cardinal is in town word gets around. They discussed Horatio's ongoing guilt about someone he'd killed while he lived in New York. Horatio said he needed the Cardinal to "tell him".

The man replied, "when you've done enough, Horatio, you'll know."

I figured I'd make it easy enough to answer, if you just remembered that it happened inside a cemetery during a funeral. Alberto was escorted there, from prison, via private security. The private escort was an off duty policeman, paid for by a rich women who'd dated Diablo in the past.

The funeral was a fake. Alberto's mother had been killed by Diablo and the Mala Noche's, but they'd dumped her body so Diablo could hide inside her casket. As soon as Diablo heard Alberto crying "mama", he popped out and sprayed machine gun fire at him. Holy Redeemer is a real place in Miami.

The Mala Noche (English translation is bad night) gang were high on the FBI's most wanted list. Horatio described them as fearless and Miami's new mafia. Supposedly, they wanted to assassinate Alberto because he'd violated their policy against selling narcotics and it had caused him to become incarcerated. Selling drugs was too high profile, and they had bigger "fish to fry" as the saying goes.

Answer: inside a panic room

Mr. Livingston and his family had been upstairs when the Mala Noche getaway car crashed through their front gate. So, Dale Livingston rushed his wife and two kids into the panic room. We later find out he'd had it installed after the gang had forced him into a life of organized crime against his will. Sadly, he'd left his housekeeper Celia alone downstairs to confront the gang.

Diablo's real name was Benito Galian. It was DNA from Celia's rape that matched up to an old case file, solved in Natalia Boa Vista's brand new DNA lab. Horatio pointed out that old habits were hard to break, suggesting that old Diablo was probably a serial rapist.

The match up came from a year old case, which had been filed by the woman who'd actually been his lover and caught in the act by her father. She'd paid for Alberto's funeral escort for Diablo, to make up for the false rape charges she'd filed and later dropped.

Delko found a grenade under the bed inside Mrs. Fuentes' home. He immediately recognized the pattern and went back to match it to her face. The Mala Noche were running grenades inside boxes of lead golf clubs. The lead clubs could fool the x-ray machines. Mr. Livingston was forced to supply the sporting equipment for the Mala Noches.

Erica had shown up right after the cemetery shooting trying to get the scoop from Ryan. Ryan was very clear at the moment that he was done with her completely. Then, he called her into the lab, smashed her recording device, and laid that dialogue on her as he shoved her into an elevator.

Unfortunately, he was forced to make nice when Horatio needed her long rage (parabolic) microphone to pick up some conversation between the Mala Noches. This lead the police to the location of a big meeting, which Diablo had decided to skip in order to kill off Celia Gonzales as she lay in the hospital.

We do see Diablo, or Benito Galian, striking Mr. Livingston with a golf club as Livingston recounts the story to Horatio. But, the club was never used as evidence on the Fuentes or Gonzales cases. Calleigh told Ryan that the shooter, Diablo, was seen wearing a bandanna. Ryan told Calleigh that if he'd been waiting inside that hot casket, there was no way he'd kept that bandanna over his face.

He was correct, as Diablo's spittle was used from the lid to map his DNA. The old rape file was that of his ex-girlfriend who later dropped the charges.

Poor Celia had been caught in the middle. She was pregnant by a married man, Dale Livingston, and sent to spy on him for the FBI. They did not have enough information to get a legal wire tap, so Maxwell recruited Celia to spy for her. Celia was beaten and raped for her trouble. Horatio made Dale Livingston pay all of Celia's hospital bills.

He found it disgraceful she'd been abandoned while the family hid in the panic room. Patricia Velasquez played Celia. Patricia can also be seen in both "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns" as Imotep's lover Anck Su Namun.
