This episode opened up with Buddy Holly's classic song, "Everyday", being played while a woman was getting ready for a date. She went to the mirror and applied her lipstick before her date showed up to her home. We found out the woman's name was Emily and her mom disapproved of Emily dating a man that was twice her age. When Emily went outside, she was hit by a car.

Locke, Ben, and Hurley stopped walking to the cabin, for a couple of minutes, and John told Hurley he did not want him to continue looking for the cabin anymore. Locke informed Hurley that he realized Hurley might be in danger and he also felt he was holding Hurley against his will and did not want to further jeopardize Hurley. Hurley told John that he probably would not be safer by wandering through the island at night, by himself. Hurley decided to not follow Locke to the cabin and he went off on his own.
