The opening credits rolled and we saw Locke down by the beach with some people and he gazed out into the ocean. A woman offered him some breakfast so Locke accepted her offer and she gave him something she picked off a tree. The woman then introduced herself to Locke as Llana.

Locke pushed a lever that created a beam of light and he then saw himself out in the desert of Tunisia. He continued to spit up and cough all the while groaning at the pain in his leg. As he turned over to observe his surroundings, he noticed a security camera so he yelled for help, hoping someone was watching the camera.

Locke was picked up by a group of men who took him back to their place to see if they could fix his leg. They gave Locke something to bite down on as they tried manually to reset his leg but it was to no avail. Locke passed out and it was when he awoke that someone told him he had a compound fracture in his leg.

The man mentioned to Locke how the original team of doctors tried their best to help him but he flew in a specialist to reset Locke's leg.

Locke found out that the man he spoke to was Charles Widmore and Widmore gave him a calling card, money and an identification card in which Locke was known as "Jeremy Bentham." When they got to talking about the Oceanic 815 survivors who would go back to the island, Locke mentioned to Charles how Richard Alpert told him that he would have to die in order to get them back there. Charles assured Locke that he would not let Locke's death happen.

Locke went to go see Hurley while he was institutionalized in a mental hospital up in Santa Rosa, California. Hurley informed Locke how he was not the first person to visit him and then he changed the subject to ask Locke why he was in a wheelchair. Locke said he broke his leg while falling down a hole.

After Hurley refused to go back to the island with Locke, Locke got into the car so Matthew Abaddon could drive around locating other survivors who needed to go back there. Matthew asked Locke if he remembered him so Locke said he had not a clue and that was when Matthew informed him he was an orderly at the hospital where he was treated for his leg wound. Matthew said his job now with Mr. Widmore required him to get people to where they needed to go.

Locke was about to hang himself in one scene until he heard a knock at the door. It was Ben, who burst into Locke's room to prevent him from committing suicide. Locke asked Ben how he found him so Ben answered that he had a man watching Sayid and the man called him to tell him of Locke's whereabouts. Locked asked Ben why he was there so Ben said he wanted to protect Locke.
