Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the "Fun Run" episode, what objects in Angela's freezer convinced her that Dwight had killed her cat?

Answer: Bags of frozen French fries

The "Fun Run" episode was the first of Season 4. Meredith was in the hospital because Michael hit her with his car. Angela was reluctant to go to the hospital with her colleagues because she needed to go home to care for Sprinkles, her sick cat. She convinced Dwight to care for Sprinkles in her place.

When Dwight returned, Angela asked him if there were any problems, and he replied "Well you left the TV on, and your cat is dead." He told her that he put Sprinkles in the freezer "because of the odor." Later, after Angela had checked out the situation at her home, she confided in Pam that she thought Dwight killed Sprinkles.

As she put it, "all my bags of frozen French fries had been clawed to shreds." This led to one my favorite lines from "The Office", when Angela asked Pam, "Did Roy ever kill one of your cats?"
2. At Jim and Pam's wedding in the "Niagara" episode, what was Kevin wearing on his feet?

Answer: Tissue boxes

The double episode "Niagara", of Season 6, dealt with Jim and Pam's wedding. The night before the wedding, Kevin had put his shoes outside of his hotel room to be shined. The hotel management instead had his shoes destroyed ("incinerated actually") because of their overwhelming odor. Kevin complained that they were his only shoes, but all the hotel offered was a complimentary breakfast. Later, as Kevin entered the church to be seated at the wedding, we see he had fashioned a pair of what appear to be tissue boxes for shoes. Kevin also wore a toupee to the wedding, so that people will think of him as "a sharp dresser".
3. When Michael and Jim were co-managers of the Scranton branch, Dunder-Mifflin gave them a very small pool of funds to distribute for salary increases in "The Promotion" episode. What objects did Michael and Jim use to help their decision process?

Answer: Boston Baked Beans

"The Promotion", in the sixth season, was a study in Michael and Jim's sorting through the new situation of being co-managers of the Scranton branch. Corporate headquarters allocated only enough funds for an average pay increase of 1.5 percent for the office.

After discussing various unworkable plans, Jim and Michael decided to give the raises based on performance. They went into the conference room and laid out photos of each employee on the table. They then took turns placing the 24 beans (each representing half a percent raise) one at a time on deserving employees' photos.

The staff came in and discovered them, and the plan fell apart amid complaints. One highlight of the episode was when, in the conference room, Jim noticed a picture of a crudely drawn monster among the staff photos, and Michael explained, even though Toby wasn't in the salary pool, he just wanted to draw him that way.
4. In the "Night Out" episode, Michael got gum in his hair by trying to retrieve a shiny object from under a car. What substance did Dwight use to try to get the gum out of Michael's hair?

Answer: Peanut butter

Most of Season 4, Episode 11, "Night Out," was focused on Michael and Dwight's trip to New York to go clubbing with Ryan. The opening bit, however, was devoted to dealing with the gum in Michael's hair. On entering the office he announced he had gotten gum in his hair from crawling under a car to get a shiny object, which turned out to be a piece of tinfoil. Jim's comment: "But best case scenario, you thought it was a quarter." Dwight got peanut butter from the office refrigerator to remove the gum with, and he slathered it on Michael's head and began massaging it in.

As Dwight was massaging the peanut butter in, he read the label on the jar and said "Wow, lots of calories." Michael replied, "Well just don't leave it on too long."
5. In Season 6, Episode 8, Michael came back to the office after a sales call with Jim. Michael was soaking wet. Why?

Answer: He fell in a Koi pond

The episode was called "Koi Pond," and as Michael was walking past the floor-level pond, he fell into it. As you can imagine, Michael was mocked a great deal by his coworkers and was thoroughly embarrassed. At one point Erin announced that the office building with the Koi pond called and demanded $300 payment for a Koi that Michael stepped on and killed. Michael said "What? No. I could get a fish for a 5 cent worm." Creed then issued one of my favorite lines from the show: "Oh, you're paying way too much for your worms, man. Who's your worm guy?"
6. To distract the office staff from Dunder-Mifflin's financial troubles, Michael brought out a boxed game called "Belles, Bourbon and Bullets" in the episode called "Murder". True or false: This is a murder mystery game set in Charleston, South Carolina.

Answer: False

The game "Belles, Bourbon and Bullets" is actually set in Savannah, Georgia. Jim resisted the game, thinking they should concentrate on working more efficiently. In the end, however, the news about Dunder-Mifflin kept getting worse, and even Jim bought into the game, telling the office staff, "Well, there is some bad news.

There has been another murder...." One of the high points for me in this episode was Oscar's attempt to speak with a Savannah accent that came out as a tentative, squeaky, high-pitched, not-very-Southern drawl.
7. In the episode "The Promotion", after the fiasco over how to distribute the small pool of salary increase funds, what object did Michael give Jim to show solidarity?

Answer: A "World's Best Boss" mug

In this Season 6 episode, Jim and Michael's plan to distribute the salary increase pool based on merit falls apart (see the question dealing with beans in this quiz), with the staff upset and unhappy. Sitting in Jim's office afterward, the two co-managers consoled each other with the fact that they tried to do the right thing. Michael pointed out that he "used to have to do this part alone, and it was the worst." He left Jim's office, saying "I have something I would like to give you." He returned with a "World's Best Boss" mug and gave it to Jim.

They used the mugs to share a drink of gin, and Jim was chagrined to realize that at that moment Michael was his best friend in the office.
8. In the Season 6 "St. Patrick's Day" episode, Jim returned to the office following his time off after his baby was born. What did he discover that Dwight had created and was reluctant to give up?

Answer: Mega-desk

Jim returned after a period of paternity leave to find that Dwight had combined Pam's, Jim's and his own desk into one giant structure he called "mega-desk". Jim, of course, reclaimed his desk, but Dwight had become obsessed with mega-desk and plotted to get rid of Jim so he could re-assemble mega-desk. Dwight admitted that "Yes, getting hooked on mega-desk was my own...fault. But, I don't care about assigning blame. All I care about is mega-desk. That is all I care about. Getting.

More. Mega-desk." This was also the episode where Michael declared that St. Patrick's Day is "the closest the Irish will ever get to Christmas."
9. Michael was meeting an insurance salesman for lunch in the "Mafia" episode, and because he was worried that the man was a mobster, he brought Dwight and Andy along. What item did Andy bring with him to use as a weapon?

Answer: Tire iron

This was the Season 6 episode called "Mafia". An insurance salesman named Angelo Grotti was trying to sell Michael insurance, either business or personal. Members of the office staff, especially Dwight and Andy, convinced Michael that Grotti might be a member of the Mafia. So, when Grotti invited Michael to lunch to pitch him insurance, Michael insisted that Dwight and Andy accompany him. Andy showed up dressed as a mechanic to justify the fact that he brought a tire iron as a weapon. When Dwight and Michael saw Andy outside the restaurant, it led to this wonderful dialogue:
Andy: "If I'm gonna back you up, I need a weapon without drawing suspicion... so, I'm a mechanic with a tire thing."
Dwight: "Do you know how to use it?"
Andy: "To change tires, no. But it's metal; I can hit somebody with it."
10. In the opening of the episode "The Chump", Toby had been placing a specific type of object in various places around the office, and Michael had been throwing them away. What were these objects?

Answer: Radon test kits

"The Chump" was the next-to-last episode of Season 6 and dealt primarily with Michael's ongoing affair with the married Donna. But the opening bit was about Toby's placing radon test kits throughout the office, with Michael repeatedly throwing them away whenever he found them.

At first he threw them away because he thought they were ant traps, and then because he thought they were toys that you turn upside down and they say "moo." But once he realized they were radon test kits and that Toby was the one placing them, he threw them away just to spite Toby.
