Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In season one, teenager Rosie Larsen was found murdered. What turned out to be her cause of death?

Answer: Drowning

Detective Sarah Linden found Rosie (actress Katie Findlay) bound up in the trunk of one of Councilman Richmond's campaign cars. The car had been submerged in a pond, and Rosie drowned inside. She'd even ripped off her own fingernails clawing for a way out. Linden was supposed to leave Seattle for Sonoma on the day Rosie's body was discovered. By season's end, she was finally on the plane.

The man that was supposed to take over her job, Stephen Holder, helped Sarah investigate Rosie's murder. Their investigation took them many places and a domino effect of tragedy followed. Mireille Enos played Sarah and Joel Kinnaman played Stephen.
2. By the end of season one, who was arrested for Rosie's murder?

Answer: Darren Richmond

Through the season, Councilman Darren Richmond came off as a fairly decent man who'd lost his wife two years earlier. Richmond was running against the incumbent mayor of Seattle, and through several scandals (including Rosie) he seemed to be the next mayor. But, when I saw that Billy Campbell had the role of Darren Richmond, I held him as suspect throughout season one. Billy had played enough malevolent characters to cause me to pause here. Through the investigation several people were suspected. Jasper Ames, Rosie's former boyfriend, and his friend Kris Echols were questioned and ruled out. Then, by withholding facts, her favorite teacher, Bennet Ahmed, seemed guilty. This assumption, and Sarah's mishandling of things, led to Stan Larsen and Belko Royce attacking Ahmed and putting him into a coma. He probably would have died if Rosie's mother hadn't realized she'd made a mistake and told Stan, who called 9-1-1 and then turned himself in for the crime. Sterling, Rosie's best friend, covered for Rosie's whereabouts that weekend, while her parents were out of town.

Season one ended with Holder unintentionally producing false evidence to confirm Richmond's guilt, Jack and Sarah on a plane to Sonoma, and Belko Royce aiming a gun at Richmond as he was transported in custody.
3. In season two, who was the first of these people to find out that Stan Larsen was not Rosie's biological father?

Answer: Linden

Linden was told this information by Alexi, the son of a man whom Stan had murdered about 20 years prior. Stan had long since left his life of crime, but the past was back to haunt him. Alexi had intended to kill Stan, but had never gone through with it after he made friends with Rosie.

It was Alexi who had the mysterious Manga tattoo Linden had discovered in Rosie's home movie. Alexi delivered this shocking tidbit to Linden at the end of "Ghost of the Past". In the episode to follow, we found out that Stan knew the whole time.
4. In season two's "Donny and Marie", we discovered whose City Council key card Linden found inside the casino. Whose was it?

Answer: Jamie Wright's

"Donny and Marie" referred to either Jamie or Gwen. Linden and Holder were able to convince Roberta that Nicole (Wapi Indian Chief Jackson) would sell her out when push came to shove on the Rosie Larsen murder. Nicole had already sold out her former head of security, sending the woman to prison for 10-20 years. Roberta gave up the last few security video DVDs. Holder and Linden watched them, and one by one, Rosie, then Nicole, then Michael Ames, and finally the missing piece, Jamie Wright boarded the elevator to the 10th floor. That is where Rosie overheard a conversation that led to her death. Both Gwen and Jamie had the campaign car that Rosie died in on the day she died, October 5th. But, what the detectives did not known until they watched the security footage was which of Darren Richmond's right hand workers it was that had it at the time of Rosie's murder. The footage showed that same car drive into the casino garage just after 12:30 am and Jamie Wright got on that elevator just after 1 am.

Barclay Hope played Michael Ames, Patti Kim played Roberta, Claudia Ferri played Chief Nicole Jackson, and Eric Ladin played Jamie.
5. Who actually killed Rosie Larsen?

Answer: Terry, her aunt

Jamie confessed to Darren that what happened with Rosie was an "accident". After his clandestine meeting at the casino with Nicole and Michael Ames, each of them left one by one. Jamie left last, and just as he was almost back to the elevator he heard Rosie's phone ring.

He confronted her, and she swore she didn't see anything. He wouldn't let it go and ended up hurting her badly. He took her out of the casino, the how was not explained, and along the way she awoke and got out of the car. That was when the chase through the woods ensued. Rosie's Aunt Terry was with Michael Ames, her married lover, when he got the call from Jamie.

He was forced to go out to the woods to help Jamie stop Rosie. Linden and Holder knew about a car with a broken tail light dropping off Michael Ames in the wee hours of the morning.

His son Jasper had informed them of that. So, when they went to tell Rosie's parents that they'd found her killer, and he was now dead, they saw that Terry's car had a broken tail light.

They already knew all about Terry's romance with Michael, so they confronted her. They quickly figured out that Terry had to have been the one to put the car into the water that night. Flashbacks showed Michael Ames refusing to help Jamie kill Rosie. Jamie told him that his chance at freedom from his wife was at stake. Michael said he didn't care, he was not leaving his wife now and would not kill Rosie. So, Terry got out of her car and put the campaign car in drive. It rolled into the water with Rosie screaming for help inside. Stan and Michelle Larsen got home in time to see Terry's pleading confession along with the excuse "I didn't know it was Rosie." She killed someone just to be with a man, a married man.
6. In the first two seasons, Sarah Linden's past as a police officer was touched on. One case in particular sent her over the edge for a period of time, and that was one where she found a little boy who'd been alone with his mother's body for days. What was the boy's name?

Answer: Adrian Seward

Adrian's mom had been murdered in their home, and Adrian left alone with her body for days. Adrian's father, Ray, had been sentenced to death for her murder. In season three, this storyline became front and center when Linden discovered a dumping ground of other women.

It was Adrian's picture she used to find the location, a drawing which had haunted her memories for three years. Peter Sarsgaard played Ray Seward.
7. In season three, Linden tried to save Ray from execution, but was unsuccessful. Was she able to make sure he laid eyes on his son before he died?

Answer: Yes

During the investigation of the murdered women, it became clear to Linden that Ray Seward was most likely innocent of his wife's murder. Her murder was so similar to the other murdered women/girls in the area, and Ray had been imprisoned for three years.

The current murders could not be from Ray. So, despite her best effort, Linden could not save Ray. Adrian waited all day to see his father, but the guards made sure that did not happen. So, Linden told Ray to make sure to look out the window for the "two trees" and they'd be there.

As he was being walked to the gallows, he was able to look outside and see Linden and Adrian looking back at him. Adrian waved goodbye to his father.
8. The fourth and final season aired just six episodes. It started off with the killings of the affluent Stansbury family. Who turned out to be their killer?

Answer: Kyle Stansbury

It took most of the season for that mystery to be solved. Kyle was the sole survivor of the attack on his family, but suffered a severe gunshot wound to his head. He was left in a coma for short time, and initially remembered nothing about that day. He was protected by the head of his military school, Colonel Margaret Rayne. She turned out to be his biological mother, who'd allowed his father to raise him. Kyle eventually remembered the entire sequence of events and confessed them to Linden.

Joan Allen played Margaret and Tyler Ross played Kyle.
9. Did Detective Linden ever confess to the police that she'd killed her boss, James Skinner?

Answer: Yes

Yes, she confessed to Reddick she'd been the one to kill Skinner after he'd admitted to her that he was the Pied Piper. She made it clear that Holder had nothing to do with it. Then, the mayor came in and said the coroner's report listed Skinner's cause of death as a self inflicted gunshot wound.

He made it clear that it would be disastrous if the public came to know that a police captain was a serial murderer. Linden was off the hook. Billy Campbell reprised his season 1 and 2 role of Darren Richmond to deliver this news to Linden. Linden left Seattle without saying goodbye to Holder.
10. The last episode moved forward a bit in time and we got to meet Holder's daughter. What was her name?

Answer: Kalia

About five or six years passed between Linden leaving town and the end of the episode. Holder and Caroline were not a couple anymore, but he was a happy father to Kalia. We saw him walking her to her school bus and promising to pick her up from her mom's house that weekend.

He was also seen running an AA group, outside of which he found Linden waiting on him. He was very happy to see her after all that time. She explained a little about what she'd been up to and that Jack was now in college. She asked what his daughter's name was, and he told her it was Kalia.

She then admitted that being his partner had felt like home to her for the first time in her life and that he'd been her best friend. He asked her to stay there with him. Then he said goodbye.

She did leave, but changed her mind and came back "home" to him. I loved the ending was completely satisfied with it. I think he was obvious more than once that he loved her.
