After witnessing his father's death, Afro became consumed with hatred. When Justice walked away with the headband, he told Afro to challenge him when he was ready.

Otsuru is a woman who has excellent healing and cooking skills. She found young Afro after he lost his Number Two headband and took him to her Swordmaster's dojo.

As time passed, she found Afro injured once again. She eventually began working as an agent under the name Okiku for a group known as the Empty 7. Her assignment was to copy Afro's fighting skills, then eliminate him. She had strong feelings for Afro, thinking was the same little boy she found years ago. She revealed to Afro that she was really Otsuru, and was later killed by one the Empty 7 brothers.

Shortly after a graduation at the dojo, Afro asks his Swordmaster about the Number Two headband. When they meet one another under the Bodhi Tree, Swordmaster tells Afro that he never wanted to reveal this secret, as being the Number Two means living a life of violence and death.

Before Swordmaster and Afro can fight, a group of men also seeking the Number Two headband invade the dojo. Swordmaster, Afro, and the students of the dojo fight the thugs, although many students die during the battle.

As the battle subsides, Afro strikes and kills the Swordmaster, and claims his Number Two headband.

The Empty 7 clan is a group of monks that wish to possess all the headbands for god-like power and immortality. They do not have great fighting skills, so they send robots and other people to do their dirty work. Most of the brothers are killed by Afro within the first couple episodes.

Jinnosuke was a good friend of Afro when they were younger. Jinno thought of Afro as the brother he never had. But when Afro killed their master for his Number Two headband, Jinno swore vengeance.

Jinno was badly injured during the battle under the Bodhi tree, and was repaired by one of the Empty 7 afterwards. He now wears a cybernetic teddy bear mask, thus giving him the nickname "Kuma." He wields twin blades in battle, but does not defeat Jinno.

But before we can see them clash, the screen goes to the credits.

Justice and Rokutaro were a part of a skilled clan of swordsmen, and were good friends. However, they had different points of view on the headbands and how to bring peace to never-ending violence in their world. This drove them to hate each other, and eventually, led to the final fight between the two (in which Justice killed Rokutaro in front of Afro, and led to the whole plot of the series).
