Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does Carter call his grandmother?

Answer: Gamma

No doubt left over from childhood.
2. Who turned Carter in when he was suspected of being addicted to painkillers?

Answer: Abby

She used to be an alchoholic and wanted to help him out. He hated her for it, but later thanked her.
3. What did Carter do with his paycheck when he was a resident?

Answer: Donated it to the hospital

He said that if he had gotten the ER intern position at County, they didn't have to pay him. He forgot all about that commitment, and when he signed for his first paycheck, he said (paraphrased) 'I don't care what they say, it sure feels good to get paid.' Much to his chagrin, Kerry reminded him of his earlier promise. (Episode 071 "Something New").
4. In memory of Peter's inspiration to Carter, Carter returned what gift to Peter as a going away present?

Answer: A train token

Peter had given it to Carter on his second week in the ER. Carter had broken down crying, completely exhausted from a night with eleven traumas. Carter related this to Peter: "You came out of surgery, handed me that, and said I could use it to go home, or I could commit to what I was doing and use it to come back the next day." Peter seemed a little shocked Carter still had it.
5. How did Carter disappoint his family?

Answer: By becoming a doctor

Carter's somewhat of the chosen son. His grandfather wanted him to take over the family's commercial empire after he died. When Carter's grandmother, Millicent, died, she named him president of the Carter Foundation.
6. What white lie did Carter tell Lucy Knight's mother?

Answer: That you don't feel a thing when you get stabbed

Lucy was played wonderfully by Kelly Martin.
7. Who did Carter and Peter Benton treat in the first season?

Answer: A suicidal transvestite

I originally had, as one of the wrong options, a pregnant 13 year old, until a fan let me know that in the pilot, Peter and Carter's first case together was in fact just that (thanks laffytaffy!). So I had two right answers! Peter and Carter do treat the suicidal transvestite, though, in Episode 10, "ER Confidential."
8. Peter and Carter's relationship is most strained when what happens?

Answer: Carter decides not to become a surgeon

The famous "ER" episode "Ambush: ER Live."
9. Why did Carter miss his med school graduation?

Answer: Because he helped a girl in need of a liver transplant

This is an example of Carter at his best.
10. How did Carter almost lose his internship at County?

Answer: Because he came back to work drunk

An example of Carter at his worst.
