Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Walter White's transformation from nerdy high school chemistry teacher to criminal kingpin all started with what specific medical diagnosis?

Answer: Lung cancer

Walter White's lung cancer diagnosis started his downward spiral towards methamphetamine manufacture and criminal activities. While it was not Stage IV terminal at the time of the diagnosis, it was bad enough to warrant brutal sessions of chemotherapy. In the end, however, it wasn't the cancer that conquered Heisenberg.
2. Jesse Pinkman is a former student of Walter White's that he recruits to help him with his drug empire because of his experience in the illegal drug scene. What nickname does Jesse go by before he joins up with Mr. White?

Answer: Cap'n Cook

Jesse Pinkman is a small-time criminal when he meets up with Walter, and gets much more than he ever bargained for. His signature is to add chili powder to his methamphetamine, which Walter scoffs at.
3. Jane is the next door neighbor of Jesse who becomes his love interest in season 2 of "Breaking Bad." What is the occupation of Jane's father, who becomes the subject of a major plot line in the final episode of the season?

Answer: Air traffic controller

After the death of his daughter, Donald Margolis returns to work too early and has a panic attack that leads to two airplanes colliding in mid-air directly over Walter White's house. It was a symbolic occurrence that demonstrated how many lives Walter had already affected while participating in his criminal activities, since Jane's death could have been prevented by Walter.
4. At the beginning of the series, Walter must work a second job at a car wash to make ends meet. Later in the series, Walt and Skyler buy the car wash as a money laundering front for Walt's criminal activities. What is the name of this car wash?

Answer: A1A Car Wash

Both Walt and Skyler run the cash register for the car wash at various times throughout the series. A classic line that is repeated many times in the series is "Have an A1 day!"
5. Gustavo Fring is a successful operator of Los Pollos Hermanos chicken restaurants, but he is also secretly the kingpin of an enormous southwestern United States drug empire. What South American country is Gustavo originally from?

Answer: Chile

Gustavo Fring is, in fact, Chilean. His back story is described in episodes from seasons 3 and 4, which show how he rose up in the southwestern United States after the Mexican Cartel murdered his former partner.
6. Elliot Schwartz is a friend of Walter White's who now runs a hugely successful technology company that Walter helped start. What is the name of the company that was invented by combining the surnames of Elliot and Walter?

Answer: Grey Matter Technologies

Grey is a combination of Walter WHITE and Elliot SCHWARTZ (translated from German as black). The success of this company is a major driving force behind Walter's criminal activities. Not only did Elliot take all of the credit for the company, he ends up married to the former love interest of Walter.
7. When Walter's brother-in-law and DEA agent Hank shows Walter the chemistry notebook that was discovered in Gale's apartment, which person does Hank NOT theorize may be represented by the mysterious initials "W.W.?"

Answer: Walt Whitman

The notebook was written by Walter's former assistant, Gale Boetticher. Hank shows Walter a page that says "To W.W., my star, my perfect silence." Unknown to Hank at the time, the initials and the work done in the notebook are both Walter White's. While Walt Whitman is Gale's favorite poet, he is not one of the people that Hank thinks of.
8. Saul Goodman is a criminal defense lawyer with his face all over town and uses the catchphrase "Better Call Saul!" Later, he becomes Walter's personal lawyer and suggests that Walter may want to use a "guy" he has that can make Walter disappear. What is the type of business that serves as a front for this disappearance service?

Answer: Vacuum shop

Saul has to call the vacuum man and ask for a "Model 60" type of vacuum to secretly ask for the "disappearing" service. Later in the series, Walter must use this service, and ends up moving to New Hampshire in the middle of the mountains.
9. Lydia is a character introduced later in the series that serves as a corporate connection for Walter to obtain materials needed for drug manufacturing. What substance is Lydia always asking for, for her tea, that eventually ends up being linked to her likely death in the final episode of the series?

Answer: Stevia

In every meeting we see with Lydia, she asks for more Stevia for her tea. In the final episode, Walter sets up a meeting with Lydia and replaces her Stevia with the ricin poison that he made much earlier in the series.
10. An M-60 machine gun rigged to the trunk of a car and a remote control system are used by Walter White in the final episode to exact revenge on Jack Welker and his men. Who is the lone survivor of this final confrontation?

Answer: Jesse Pinkman

Jesse Pinkman is seen driving away in a state of euphoria and insanity in some of the final scenes of the series. While Walter White does initially walk away from the shootout, he has been injured by a ricochet and dies minutes later while admiring the meth lab Jesse was recently working in.
